I’ve seen so many cute chunky knit blankets on Instagram, and I’ve been dying to get my hands on one. The only problem is the price tag on those adorable, fluffy, chunky knit blankets – they aren’t the cheapest! So of course I decided, why not just make one?!
This blanket took me only about an hour to make. This project is fun, quick, and easy, and it leaves you with the most gorgeous blanket! I mean, you can’t beat that right?
Supplies:
Below is the yarn I used for this blanket. It was on sale when I bought it, and since then it has been put on clearance and taken off the Michaels website. Sadly, I was told they would not be getting any more in stock.
BUT don’t worry! I have found some other great options that will still work well with hand knitting!
The yarn I used has shed some, so if you plan to just use the blanket for decoration, then a wool yarn is still a great option. But if you plan to use the blanket often I would recommend a non-wool yarn. Below are some great options!
- Bernat Big Blanket Yarn from Michaels – you will need about 6-8 skeins to make a blanket the size of mine. (You can see a picture of a blanket made using THIS yarn below. See picture of my daughter napping under the blanket).
- Non-shedding option from Amazon – use the chart on their product page to determine how much yarn you need.
- Wool yarn (will shed) from Amazon – use the chart on their product page to determine how much yarn you need.
*PLEASE READ* – I’ve received a lot of question about using wool yarn versus non-wool yarn. I just want to clarify that the yarn I recommend you use is the Bernat Big Blanket Yarn. This yarn is chunky and soft, and it does NOT shed. You can see a blanket made out of this yarn below. This blanket is used daily by my family and has held up beautifully! PLUS Michaels offers free same-day curbside pick up for online orders, as well as $9.99 same-day delivery!
