Here on the West Coast, we are famous, or perhapsinfamous, for our casual lifestyle. (And ridiculous real estate market!) Unfortunatelymany West Coasters frequently cross the line between casual andsloppy to take our informal dress code to a whole other level.
I get it. Weekends are a time to unwind, enjoy friend and family time, attend to domestic chores and watch your kid’s game (Go UBC Thunder!). Comfort is key. While I don’t suggest you get all dolled up to go to little league, you can still hit it out of the park with your off-duty style.
Fit- Oversized and baggy clothing is a popular relaxed look, but stick to one item of loose clothing at a time and keep the rest of your outfit more fitted and sleek.
Distressed denim- This trend doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Again, sport one trend at a time. If you are going to wear ripped jeans, juxtapose them with a top that is not.
Fabric- The crisper the fabric, the dressier. Pair a jersey knit T-shirt with more crisp or rugged fabrics like leather, suede or denim.
Accessories- By adding a belt or jewellery, like stud earrings or a simple necklace, you will make your outfit look more intentional and less like it’s laundry day and you had only a few clean options to wear.
Shoes- Flat sandalsare a go-to for many people in the spring/summer. You can elevate your entire look with a proper sturdy sandal vs a flipflop. Sneakers can be cute and practical for running errands around town but do make sure they’re not the same ones you ran the half marathon over the weekend.
Enjoy the sunshine!
