How To: McCommand Center (2024)

These instructions are accurate as of May 24, 2021.

MC Command Center is a wonderful mod that adds story progression, disables culling, and basically allows you to tweak various settings of the game. You can have just run in the background, quietly updating your unplayed families or have it be an active participant. If you are more interested in how MC settings work, I’ve posted mine here.

It’s fairly easy to set up – but there are some steps involved. (I only have PC instructions here as I don’t own a mac anymore.)

1. Download at MC Command Center Deaderpool’s site.

Scroll down the page to the “Download here” section. There are two files. The first is the majority of the modules zipped together. The second is MCWhoohoo and affects the pregnancy and relationships of your played sims.

Make sure you’re always using the latest version of MCCC and most up to date Sims 4. There’s no guarantee things will work if you’re not. Unless you’re using the Legacy version of Sims 4 – then you must only use version 6.6.0 – but at least you won’t have to update?

2. Unzip the file

Find out where you downloaded it to and unzip the file. On a PC you should be able to do this by right clicking on the file and clicking “Extract All.” It’ll extract the file to a folder with the same name as the zip file.

If you have an unzip program installed you might have more options. By default, Windows unzipper will create folders next to the zipped file.

If you click to open the new file you will see all the files inside. The Whoohooer zip has only two files in it. Just drop those two items into the AllModules file so you only deal with one mod folder.

If you’re updating MCCC – grab the mc_settings.cfg file from your previous install and add that to this folder. That will preserve all your nice settings so you don’t have to reconfigure them every time.

4. Put folders in your Mods Folder

Drag the MCCC folder (not the zipped one) into your Sims 4 Mods folder. If your game is installed normally, you will find your Mods folder here: My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.

The Mods folder will appear after you first play the game. So if you don’t see it either make a blank folders called “Mods” (capital M) or just start up the game for the first time and it’ll show up.

5. Edit the Resource.cfg file

OPTIONAL – You will only need to do this the first time you install MCC. Basically, this will make it so Sims looks IN folders for mods. If you’re already using folders for your mods, you probably won’t have to do this step. If this is too much for you – just take all the files out of the folder and put them directly in the Mod folder. But I like some organization to my mods.

In your mods folder, right-click on the resource.cfg file and click open.

It might ask you what program to open it with. On a Windows machine, Notepad will be fine.

The file should read

Priority 500PackedFile *.packagePackedFile */*.packagePackedFile */*/*.packagePackedFile */*/*/*.packagePackedFile */*/*/*/*.package

This allows the game to look four folders deep inside your Mods folder for more packages.

6. Save the Resource.cfg file

7. Start up your game

You may need to enable scripts mods if you haven’t already done so – or if the game has been patched recently.

Click on Menu > Game Options > Other and check the option to allow script mods and enable Custom Content and Mods. You will need to restart the game after this change.

8. Check to see if MC Command is working

There’s a handy popup that appears in your notifications now when you start the game showing all the modules that are installed. If you don’t see it. Then it’s not working. There’s a great troubleshooting document on Deaderpool’s site and if that doesn’t work you can try out his discord channel. The discord channel is also great if you are having trouble with this mod.

9. Where are the settings?

Go into the game and into a house with a PC. Click on the PC and you should now see the option for MC Command. Clicking this will get you the menu options. There is also an MC Command Menu item when you click on a sim or on a mailbox. (This is an older shot – it now has Deaderpool’s icon on the option now, but it’s the same thing). You can also type “mc_settings” into the Sims command line which is found via “control-shift-c”.

10. Updating when a New version comes out

You can following all the instructions above whenever a new version comes out – however if you don’t want to redo all your nice mcc settings. Grab that file (it’s called settings) out of the MCC file and move it in the new folder when you update.

It’s probably still good to check through the settings in game after you update. Sometimes the options change between versions. There also might be new options you want to set as well!
