How many times have you gotten a DM from a stranger that just made you cringe? Even though the message is super friendly, it gets an instant delete as it feels “spammy”.

If you’re worried about coming across as cringeworthy in DMs to your dream clients on Instagram, you’re not alone! So many biz owners on Instagram have reached out to me asking how to get the conversation started in DMs and not scare off potential clients.

This is why I’m sharing with you my three tips on how to reach out to ideal clients in DMs without feeling (or being!) spammy!

⭐️STEP INTO THEIR SHOES

Before sending out a DM always THINK about you’d feel if you receive the message you’re sending. If it sounds salesy, delete and try again! Remember, your ideal client probably thinks like you do, and if you’d appreciate the wording or content of the DM, they probably will to.

⭐️BE PERSONAL

When sending a DM, use their name to make that personal connection. This may require a little digging with smaller accounts, but this just proves my point - if they’re an ideal client, you’re willing to make the effort, and they’ll feel that!

I don’t recommend introducing your pitch in the first DM. Chat a little first, find some common ground. Show interest in who they are and what they do - don’t make it all about you. When you get to the business side of things, use what you’ve learned about them in your pitch.

If possible, send a voice message! There’s no better way to reach out on a personal level than to share your voice and thoughts. Now they know how you sound and can really get the feel of your message.

⭐️FOLLOW UP

After sending a DM, follow up! Take the time to continue to engage with their content. Remember, Instagram is all about building genuine connections. It may be a longer process, but growing your following organically is the way to go!

Having an expert on board who engages with ideal clients for you before they get into your DMs makes your job a LOT easier. How? Warming up potential clients before they’re even in your DMs means the relationship has already gotten started and they’re aware of who you are and what you’ve got to offer. All that’s left is for you to be you!
