How To Tell if Versace Sunglasses Are Real
If you’re in the market for a pair of Versace sunglasses, you may be wondering how you can tell whether what you’re buying is real.
Here are some things you can check to be sure you’re getting authentic Versace shades.
The Versace Website
Versace has an online authentication process. There are three ways you can authenticate your sunglasses:
- Use the NFC tag. NFC stands for near-field communication. The NFC tag is a tiny microchip on the product label. If you have a smartphone, it can read the information on the chip and will do so automatically when you tap the label or hold your phone near your sunglasses. If you have an older phone, you can manually activate the NFC reader.
- Scan the QR code. The product label also has a QR code. You can scan it with your smartphone for instructions on how to authenticate your Versace sunglasses.
- Use the Certilogo (CLG) code. New Versace sunglasses also have a Certilogo code that is usually on the box. You’ll see the letters CLG followed by a 12-digit number. There is a link on the Versace website you can use to register your sunglasses using the CLG code.
Here are some other things to look for so you can know if your Versace sunglasses are real:
Box
You can check to see if your sunglasses are real before you even take them out of the box.
Look at the logo, font, and spelling of Versace. All the printing should look neat, clean, and straight. You can compare your box with printing and logo on the Versace website to see if everything looks correct.
Accessories
Your sunglasses will come in a case that says “VERSACE” (in capital letters) and will have an information booklet and warranty card. You also will get a cleaning cloth with the logo and name stamped on it. The font, spelling, and logo on these items should look the same as on the website.
Frame and Lenses
There are a number of things you can check to tell if your Versace sunglasses are real:
- Material. The plastic and/or metal should feel solid, smooth and high quality.
- Right temple arm. “VERSACE” and “Made in Italy” will be printed on the inside. If you have a newer pair, you’ll also see “CE” printed there. This means the sunglasses are produced in accordance with the international European Union guidelines.
- Left temple arm. This arm has the model number, color, frame size and lens size printed on the inside. These numbers should match the label on the box. You can look up the model number online to see if your sunglasses are the real thing.
- Right lens. Newer sunglasses have a serial number engraved at the top of the right lens. This number should be clear and clean and will have a texture if you touch it.
- Hinges. The hinges that connect the temple arms to the front of the frame should feel secure. The temple arms should open and close easily and smoothly.
- Polarization. If the lenses say they’re polarized, there’s an easy way you can confirm this. Point the sunglasses at a computer screen. Turn them to the left or right. If the screen looks black while you’re turning the glasses, the lenses are polarized.
Price
Luxury items are expensive. Versace sunglasses usually cost $250 to $500, but you may be able to find them on sale at an authorized retailer. If you’re eyeing a pair that costs a lot less, they may not be real.
Seller’s Website
Read the product description carefully if you’re shopping online. If you see the terms “genuine like” or “designer inspired,” these are clues that the product may not be authentic.
How to Tell If Versace Glasses Are Real
You can find out if your Versace glasses are real by checking many of the same things as the sunglasses:
- Right temple arm. Check the inside. You can tell the Versace glasses are real if “VERSACE” and “Made in Italy” are printed on the inside. If you have a newer style, “CE” will be printed after “Made in Italy.”
- Left temple arm. You’ll see the model number, color, frame size and lens size printed on the inside.
- Material and hinges. As with the sunglasses, the plastic or metal frames should feel substantial and the hinges should move smoothly.
- Accessories. Your new Versace eyeglasses are packaged with a booklet and a hard shell case with “VERSACE” printed on the front.
- Price. How much you’ll pay depends on the style of eyeglasses you want. In general, prices start around $175 and can go as high as $650 or more.
