How to spot which items will be reduced AGAIN in TK Maxx from the label (2024)

DISCOUNTS are rare at TK Maxx because prices are already slashed - but sometimes reductions do happen and you can find them by looking at the label.

The bargain shop - famous for flogging designer gear at low prices - uses two different colours of sticker for clearance items: and both mean something different.

When products are first reduced, TK Maxx will put a red sticker on the item with its new price.

But not many people know that prices can be slashed a second time with an even bigger discount when TK Maxx needs to shift old stock.

When this happens, shop workers will put a yellow sticker on them, which is usually placed over the old red one.

So when you see a yellow sticker, you know the item will be heavily reduced.

The tip is only known by the savviest of bargain hunters, and was revealed to us by money-saving blogger, model and influencer Zack Smith.

Zac, who has 43.8k followers on Instagram, told The Sun: "The red clearance sale stickers eventually turn to a yellow sticker.

"Anything that has a yellow label will be marked down significantly until it is 20p - the lowest mark-down point."

Yellow stickers mean huge discounts because they're items TK Maxx wants to get rid of, according to savvy savers.

If it's not sold soon after getting a yellow sticker, TK Maxx donates the item to charity, according to another super shopper on Instagram: "_asat_nowomanocry".

Other shopping tips and tricks at TK Maxx

HERE are some other ways you can bag a bargain at TK Maxx:

Go at the right time

While the shops get new stock in every day, employees have advised shoppers to go in in the morning.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings are thought to be the prime time to head in to find the best bargains.

Head out of town

Although the city shops are easiest to get to for many people, they should consider heading out of town.

As these shops are less often visited they are likely to have a wider selection of designer pieces.

Parking could also be better and so shoppers will be able to lug home larger goods with ease.

Set your alarm

Insiders suggest going to the shops at opening time.

The reason for this is simple - the earlier you go the more likely it is that you'll have more room to browse AND the rails will still be relatively organised.

Gold labels

If shoppers are on the hunt for designer goods only, then they should keep an eye out for the Gold Label.

This range includes swish brands on the cheap, such as Versace, Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs.

Remember the home and beauty range

The homeware and beauty sections are full of unsung items to snap up - with various household bits unique and colourful.

And it is useful to remember the designer goods aren't just limited to the clothing range.

The stores also stock decent health food products, even included protein powders to bulk up on at a bargain.

Staff discount

Anyone who works at a TK Maxx gets 10 per cent discount.

Bargain loving shoppers can even tap up their pals behind the till or in the stock room to get even more money off.

There is also a rewards programme with the Treasure card, which you can pick up in store.

Voucher codes can also be picked up online to save more money.

TK Maxx says that it gives products clearance stickers if it hasn't sold after four to six weeks of being on the shop floor.

But a spokesman added: "Word to the wise, it’s a brave customer who waits for something they love to go into Clearance.

"As every TK Maxx fan knows – when it’s gone it’s really gone."

They added that every shop will have clearance throughout the year, if you can find them.

And a few times a year, the chain will host a "final clearance" sale.

TK Maxx keeps prices low by buying old season stock from big high street brands and designers and then flogging it to customers at up to 60 per cent off the RRP.

Everything is put out on the shop floor, and once it's gone, it's gone.

But with thousands of items, from furniture and clothes to beauty products and shoes, on sale at any one time, not all of it will sell.

That's when TK Maxx may reduce the price even further - and if you're lucky, it will even slash the price a second time and put a yellow sticker on the item.

A word of warning, though: insiders say the original retail price on the label might not always be as high as it says, as revealed in a Dispatches investigation.

This doesn't mean to say it isn't a bargain, but it might not be quite as big a saving as shoppers think.

TK Maxx has more than 300 shops in the UK and Ireland. You can find your nearest branch using its online store finder tool.
