For something a little bolder, but still drawing inspiration from nature, try using ‘Darwin – Serein’ combined withLamp Blackwoodwork in your bedroom scheme.

‘Darwin’ (c1760) represents one of the Whitworth Art Gallery’s most important recent acquisitions. With a twist in its story, this exemplary English piece was actually found intact in a house in Aix-en-Provence, France.

The exotic scene accurately imitates a typical 18th Century hand-painted Chinese paper. But the tax stamp, still visible on the back of the original rag paper, categorically identifies it as English in origin.

The colours interpreted in the ‘Serein’ colourway are very true to the original - a surprisingly (and wonderfully) well-preserved archive document. The vibrant design can be used in an all over scheme to bring interest and pattern to an otherwise neutral finish.

Kitchen Wallpaper

In a room that can often be the liveliest area of the home, do not be afraid to go bold! Consider a mural or large damask pattern for a dramatic kitchen wallpaper scheme. The kitchen is the perfect place to experiment with stronger colours and pattern, providing a creative space to be enjoyed.

Although there is no specific type of wallpaper for kitchens, Little Greene wallpapers are spongeable to maintain a clean kitchen without damaging the print.

Upper Brook Street – Minuit’ provides a dramatic backdrop to contemporary furniture and can be combined with complementary shades such as ‘Lamp Black’ or ‘Citrine’. Also consider the use of colour highlights to add a playful element to the room, for a space that is vibrant and energetic.

Brooke House – Cinder

Brooke House – Cinder’ provides a more subtle, classic finish, pulling together a combination of neutral tones for a more traditional kitchen design.

The document from which this wallpaper was drawn is identified as 1920s in origin, notably because of the way it had been printed. The ‘gravure’ technique only became commercially viable after the turn of the last century.
