White is a neutral that goes with anything and everything. It’s crisp and clean and perfect for a hot summer day. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, we were taught that white was worn from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Once summer was over, our whites were retired. This tradition dates back to the 19th century when affluent residents would get out of dodge in winter to vacation in warmer climates. Those who could afford winter vacations could wear white while the rest of the working population was excluded. It was a subtle “rule” to identify social class. Welcome to the 21st century when all sorts of “rules” for fashion are thrown by the wayside, including white after Labor Day. Feel free to wear white any time of year, including winter—one of my favorite ways is to wear white denim. Today, it’s all about how to wear white jeans in winter. Today I pulled photos from the archives to share some inspiration how to wear white jeans in winter through the years.
