Hello Shikshya,

Saying I was borned in Canada is incorrect. The reason is the use of born.

Born is often used in the Passive Voice, such as your example I was born. The Active Voice would be to give birth.

For example:Active Voice: My mother gave birth to me in 2020.Passive Voice: I was born in 2020.

We don't usually need to say who gave birth, as we know it was the birth mother. Anyways, the short answer to your question: We don't need to put born in the Past Tense because it already is with was.

Hope this helps!

Best,Daniel

Dear Skikshya

"Born" uses the rules of irregular verbs and does not use the suffix "ed" for the past tense.

The word "born" stays the same in the past tense.

If you are born, which only happens once in your life time it will always be in the past tense.

"Was" is the helping verb to indicate the past tense. The correct sentence would be:

I was born in Canada.

Hope this helpsIt's best to book a lesson to explain verbs in detail

Hi Shikshya,

It is not correct! And the right form should be I was born in Canada. This is because the past tense of born is not borned but rather Was born.

The verb bear means carry. The 2nd form is bore. The 3rd form is borne. - "I have borne this weight for too long".

The verb bear also means give birth. This is what a lady does when a baby emerges from her.The 3rd form is spelt born.

  • The most common form of this verb is "born".

A correct sentence is "I was born in Canada."

  • We say "give birth" more commonly than "bear" (verb). "Bear" (verb) is formal, very formal, or old-fashioned (except for the form "born").

In a way, we can say that there is a verb "be born".
