Jeremy Vine took to Twitter to ask for advice after coming across bathroom taps that were apparently fitted incorrectly.

The broadcaster, 54,tweeteda video of himself opening and closing a hot and cold tap, explaining he was convinced something wasn't quite right.

Captioning the post, Jeremy wrote: 'Are these taps fitted the wrong way round?'

More than 200 people responded to the post, with many agreeing it seemed they were fitted wrong. However others failed to see what had given Vine pause.

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine, 54, tweeted a video (pictured) of himself opening and closing a hot and cold tap, explaining he is convinced something isn't quite right

The apparent issue is that Vine turns the taps clockwise - towards himself - to open, and anticlockwise - away from himself - to close.

Several users pointed out this is the opposite way around to what you would normally expect.

Jeremy Vine, pictured, took to Twitter to ask for advice, and was met with more than 200 responses

One wrote: 'I can see where you're coming from, you are turning clockwise to open and anticlockwise to close. Usually in plumbing anticlockwise always opens the tap. So maybe they are wrong?'

Another posted: 'Seems daft doesn't it? We have ONE tap in our home that is like this... it catches us out all the time. Now I celebrate its quirkiness'

A third added: 'I have the same taps and felt the same when they were first fitted - maybe its something particular to this type of tap?'

Another agreed: 'My parents have taps like this. Definitely weird and feels wrong turning them off to turn them on.'

However others claimed there was 'nothing wrong' with how they opened.

Many agreed it seemed 'daft' to turn the tap the wrong way to be opened and closed

Meanwhile not everyone appeared to understand the issue - with many thinking Jeremy was confused by the fact that hot was on the left and cold on the right.

Another wrote: 'Hot on left, cold on the right is pretty standard. I was always told this was a standard to help visually impaired.'

Some went further and suggested the tap heads didn't match.

However others claimed there was 'nothing wrong' with how they opened

One said: 'And... it's the style of the tap handles that is causing confusion. If they were a simple lever style it would be fine. This is how wars start.'

A third added: 'The hole at the back is actually for the lever that operates the plug mechanism... so year, it's been put in the wrong way.'

A third added: 'No. It's the manufacturers choice of tap heads that is wrong. They are quarter turn cartridges and should have lever type heads.'

However not everyone appeared to understand the issue - with many thinking Jeremy was confused by the fact that hot was on the left and cold on the right.
