Judge curbs gangster's style (2024)

A teenage member of a notorious inner-city gang has been banned from wearing a single golf glove or a balaclava, or revealing his tattoo of allegiance.

If he breaches the antisocial behaviour order, 16-year-old Nathan Wadley, from Levenshulme, a member of Manchester's L$$$ gang, could face a custodial sentence.

A district judge sitting at Manchester magistrates court imposed the order, which bans him from carrying or displaying any article associated with the gang, also known as the Beswick Crew, the Young Longsight Soldiers, YLSS, the LSSS and YL$$.

He must not display a tattoo, on his upper right arm, inscribed L$$$ while in the Longsight or Belle Vue areas of the city.

The action was brought by Manchester city council. The council's lawyer, Mark Watling, said single golf gloves were often worn by armed gang members to stop gunpowder contaminating their hands and to avoid fingerprints on the weapon.

They were also a symbol of gang membership.

Wadley has been given community orders for a string of convictions dating back to when he was 13.
