KGF Chapter 2 and RRR made Rs 1000 crore in same number of days. But Yash's film is a bigger hit. Here's how (2024)

KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR have one thing in common. Both the mega-budget films turned out to be a dream at the ticket windows all across the world. It is just another proof that language is no barrier and the content speaks louder than the stars. Yash's KGF 2 and Jr NTR-Ram Charan's RRR were dubbed in Hindi and earned a lion's share from the North belt. It will be interesting to note that both the films took exactly 16 days to cross the Rs 1000-crore mark at the box office. But here's the thing - we still think that KGF: Chapter is a bigger hit than RRR.

KGF: CHAPTER 2 CROSSES RS 1000-CRORE MARK

KGF: Chapter 2 has broken all the records at the box office! The Yash-starrer managed to cross the Rs 1000-crore mark in gross worldwide collection on April 30. In fact, KGF 2 is the fourth Indian movie to have achieved this feat after RRR, Dangal and Baahubali: The Conclusion. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film is expected to fare even well if Eid boost is as big as expected.

KGF: Chapter 2, which released on April 14, recorded gross domestic collection of Rs 134.50 crore on its opening day. Ever since, it shows no sign of stopping down. Sharing the update on Saturday, April 30, film trade analyst Ramesh Bala wrote on Twitter, “#KGFChapter2 has crossed 1,000 Crs Gross Mark at the WW Box Office.. Only the 4th Indian Movie to do so after #Dangal , #Baahubali2 and #RRRMovie (sic).”

Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF follows the story of Rocky (Yash), an orphan rising from poverty to become the king of a gold mine. Sanjay Dutt plays the antagonist Adheera in the period action drama. The second part also features Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles. The film also saw Malavika Avinash, Prakash Raj, Eswari Rao and Saran in supporting roles.

WHEN RRR CROSSED RS 1000-CRORE MARK

RRR also took 16 days to cross the Rs 1000-crore mark. Helmed by SS Rajamouli and starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the leading roles, RRR tells the story of two Indian revolutionaries Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitaram Raju respectively. It is an epic war drama set in the pre-Independence era. On Day 16, the film crossed the prestigious Rs 1000-crore club at the box office worlwide.

RRR, which was made on a huge budget, hit the theatres on March 25 in record number of screens across the globe. RRR has been on a record-breaking spree ever since it released. Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan on his Twitter account on April 9 and wrote, "#RRRMovie enters the PRESTIGIOUS1,000 cr club (sic)." In another tweet, he mentioned the three Indian films in the Rs 1,000-crore club as he tweeted, "1000 cr+ club Indian movies. #Dangal, #Baahubali2, #RRR (sic)."

WHY IS KGF: CHAPTER 2 BIGGER HIT THAN RRR?

While audience were excited to see Yash and Sanjay Dutt together in KGF: Chapter 2, the star power that Jr NTR and Ram Charan brought to RRR was just enough to pull them to the theatres. The box office performance, however, was solely dependent on the stories. Interestingly, both the films had a solid story at its core, and this is why they minted so much money.

Trade experts have revealed that RRR entered into profit zones a week after its release. This made theatre owners, exhibitors and the producer happy. It has been reported that KGF: Chapter 2 was made on a huge budget of over Rs 100 crore by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films. Technically, KGF: Chapter 2 is a bigger hit as it has already made huge profits as it has made over Rs 900 crore (approx Rs 800 crore) in 12 days. And in 16 days, it earned Rs 1000 crore. Looking at the box office trend, it doesn't look like the film is slowing down anytime soon. Gradually, more screens are being allotted to KGF: Chapter 2.
