Have you ever wondered why you don’t feel completely confident with your clothing choices? Or why an outfit may look absolutely stunning on someone else, but awful on you? The answer could be that you are not making style decisions that support “your authentic self.”
How many shopping mistakes have you made because you have seen a friend, amannequin, a celebrity, or even a stranger wearing a great outfit. You go out and buy something similar, only to find that when you put it on, it looks nothing like you thought it would. (Of course we’ve all done this. I mean we have to get fashion inspiration from somewhere, don’t we.)
Today’s blog is all about creating your own personal style statement. A personal style statement is a brief phrase that accurately reflects your true spirit and the essence of how you would like to be represented.
We begin with the definition of personal:PERSONAL — of, affecting, or belonging to a particular person rather than to anyone else.
If your style statement is going to be personal, that means it will be uniquely your own. It should be honest and truthful. It should be “authentic” to you.
Begin thinking of a few adjectives that describe you and how you would like to be perceived in your life and in your style. Three or four will do. (Here are some examples: friendly, elegant, classic, chic, casual, witty, welcoming, fun, quirky, rebellious, formal, powerful, sporty, sexy, athletic, bold, dramatic.) Having a hard time thinking of words to describe yourself? Ask a friend to help. As an image consultant, one of the things Janna consistently finds is that her clients are unable to”see themselves” objectively. Women, especially, are quite blind to their own unique assets and virtues.
So your assignment this week: Write down three or four adjectives that accurately define your essence.
