This past week Andrew and Marcus found themselves in Monaco for the Formula One Grand Prix with TAG Heuer. During the festivities, Andrew had the chance tomeet up with Grey’s Anatomy star, and TAG Heuer Ambassador, Patrick Dempsey. But before they could get into the subject at hand, Mr McUtchen had to settle a cheeky score with McDreamy himself. At the height of Grey’s Anatomy‘s popularity, this was a time where Andrew was in the throws of dating – and he was bitter that Dempsey ruined his chances of being called McDreamy. Fortunately, Dempsey was able to offer up a solution – dubbing Andrew as McSteamy (which may need approval from fellow Grey’s actor Eric Dane). With the dust settled, and the elephant no longer in the room (or yacht in this case), McDreamy and McSteamy began to chat all things watches, Heuer heritage, racing, and Dempsey’s favourite TAG Heuer watches.
While I would have loved to have been there, stuck on the sidelines in America in complete and utter agony and envy, it was very fitting that our newly christened McSteamy had a chance to clear the air with Mr McDreamy himself.
It would be a disservice to spoil the entire video. Like seeing a watch in the metal, you really need to tune into the video above to get the full experience. Ambassadorships elicit cynicism from watch enthusiasts, fair enough. And Dempsey, as an actor, surely knows how to memorise a script and put on a face. But it is abundantly clear from the McConversation that ensues in this video that Dempsey is a 100% genuine fan of the brand he represents. He clearly went through a natural trajectory of cars, racing, TAG Heuer, and watches. His investment in the brand, while inclusive of a transactional relationship, really runs deep. Because racing and TAG Heuer are so intertwined, he has a rich enthusiasm for the watch brand, their involvement in the racing world, as well as their heritage across the board.
