How do I know my cap size? ›

Know Your Cap Size

To get your size, measure comfortably around your head where your cap will sit, with a tape measure. Take that number in inches, divide by 3.14 (pi) and round up to the nearest eighth. This is your cap size. See the chart for size conversions.

What's the Average Hat Size for Men and Women? The average head circumference for adults falls between 53 centimeters and 58 centimeters. On average, a man's hat size will be approximately 59 centimeters, while a woman's average hat size will be 57 centimeters.

Keep in mind that head shapes and sizes differ among hat lovers. However, the hat size that men most commonly wear is 7 ⅜. Meanwhile, the average cap size for women is 7 ¼. Make sure that there's some space between your head and the hat (about the width of your finger).

Hat sizing comes in three general sizes. The most commonly used sizing you will see here are SM, MD, LG, XL and occasionally 2 & 3X sizes. The second most common sizing that we have on our site is that of half-sizes. Meaning there are usually only two sizes: SM/MD, and LG/XL.

Medium hats (listed as size 7 – 7 1/8) are for heads that measure 21 7/8″ – 22 1/4″ (56 – 57 cm). Large hats (listed as size 7 1/4 – 7 3/8) are for heads that measure 22 5/8″ – 23″ (58 – 59 cm).

For example, let's say your head measures 23 inches, which is approximately 58 centimeters. According to the hat size chart, we can see that the right hat size for you is large and the fitted size is 7 1/4 to 7 3/8.

For a heart-shaped face, try a fedora, cloche, or beanie. Soften the edges of a square face by wearing a hat with a rounded brim. Sunhats, cowboy hats, and cloches are great options. For an oblong face, try a hat with a flared brim and low crown, such as a sunhat, a cloche, or a large-brimmed fedora.

To find your perfect fit, take a measuring tape and measure around your head where the hat will sit, usually about a half-inch above your eyebrows and ears. Consult the table below to find the right Fitted Hat size depending on what style you choose. If you are between sizes, buy the larger size.

The cap must be deep enough in order for it to fit around the head. While it should not be too tight, the cap should be the mold of your head size, with a little room to spare to avoid uncomfortable tightness. I always avoid loose-fitting hats because they fall off easily.
