While Alex and Arvin are the perfect pair, there are many other Modern Family characters who could have had a relationship with the middle Dunphy kid.
Unlike her sister Haley, Alex Dunphy was more concerned with her schoolwork and higher education than personal relationships. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend would have been a nice way for Alex to blow off some steam but her first love was always science.

By the end of Modern Family, Alex ended up for Haley’s ex-boyfriend and her former professor, Arvin. And while Alex and Arvin make the perfect pair, Alex had a plethora of potential suitors; she just never realized it because she was too enthralled with school work. If Alex never did go on to date Arvin, who’s to say that she couldn’t have ended up with this list of suitable characters?
Sanjay
Was Sanjay the one who got away? He and Alex competed with each other throughout high school until they realized they had feelings for each other. It was because of their personal need to beat each other at school that they realized they made each otherbetter. The couple planned on breaking up when they attended separate colleges but they ended up staying together and doing long distance. Sadly, Sanjay cheated on Alex and the two broke up. But in an alternate universe, it would have been exciting to see these two get back together after running into each other once they graduated college.
Maisie
When Haley moved Alex into Caltech, both of the girls met Alex’s roommate Maisie for the first time. Maisie was brilliant like Alex but had the personality of Haley. She was outgoing, bubbly, and a little annoying. However, Alex eventually found a soft side to Maisie and warmed up to her.

The two enjoyed each other’s company and helped each other study. Falling for each other while studying for class would have been typical for Alex. And seeing as she and Maisie had different personalities, Maisie could loosen Alex up a bit and draw her out of her shell.
Aidan Feldman
Aidan Feldman only appeared in season 4’s “Arrested,” but his demeanor screamed Alex Dunphy. He was part of Haley’s disciplinary hearingto see if Haley should be allowed back as a student or dismissed from the school entirely. Everything Aidan said to Haley was something that Alex would say. If Alex joined her parents on this field trip to save Haley from jail, she would have met Aidan, and who knows what would have happened next? They would have connected over Haley’s horrible attendance record and compared stories about being the bright one in the family.
Ronnie LaFontaine Jr.
In the sixth season, the LaFontaines moved in next to the Dunphys, much to the latter's chagrin. The LaFontaines weren’t the Dunphys' idea of dream neighbors but they had to suck it up.

Unlike his popular sister Tammy, Ronnie Jr. appeared to be a bit of an outcast. When he met Alex, however, he called her “hot stuff,” which caught her off guard. And as it turned out, Ronnie wasn’t the stoner the Dunphys assumed he’d be. In “Knock ‘Em Down,” Claire and Phil found out that Ronnie was a brilliant musician who was attending theprestigious Juilliard in New York. So not only did Ronnie have the bad boy image that Alex seemed attracted to, but he was also brilliant!
Asher
Asher was Mitch and Cam’s neighbor. He was older than Alex in season5 but he could have been a potential partner forher when she graduated college.
Asher was an environmentalist who judged Mitch and Cam for the amount of water they used for their yard and for always having their air conditioner on. And while Mitch and Cam wanted to prove him wrong, there was no fault in what Asher was saying. His aloof personality and incredible vocabulary mirrored Alex’s. If these two met in the future, there’s no telling the good they could have created from each other’s own knowledge and education.
Dwight
Dwight was in high school when Alex was a freshman in college but she couldn’t help but be attracted to him. He was Cam’s star athlete on the football team and was staying with the Tucker-Pritchetts for the remaining of the football season.
On Thanksgiving, the two flirted with each other and Cam caught them kissing. And while Alex and Dwightdidn’t have much in common, the tension between them was electric. It would have been good for Alex to fall for someone who was completely different than her in every way butwould still make herproud to show off — unlike Ben and Bill, whom she was embarrassed by).
Daliya
Daliya was the Delgado-Pritchett’s nanny in season 4. She was far older than Alex at this point in the series but if she was still around by the time Alex graduated college, these two would have been a sweet couple.
For starters, Alex can be a little cold and lack empathy for those she doesn’t understand. Daliya on the other hand was peaceful and encouraged love and understanding. She didn’t end up being Joe’s nanny for long because of Manny’s crush on her but seeing as Gloria and Jay approved of her, she would have fit in nicely with the family. Daliya also would have taught Alex to slow down and appreciate life more.
Jason Darling
Just as fans hoped Haley would end up with Andy, they dreamed that something wouldhappen between Jason and Alex.
The two met on a college tour of Caltech and immediately hit it off. They quizzed each other on their knowledge of the university and about their love of science.Being from the East Coast, theywished to see each other again. Whether that was at MIT or Caltech, they both admitted to liking each other by the end of the tour. They even became friends on Facebook! Sadly, nothing ever became of Jason and Alex, which was an opportunity missed.
Sienna
Sienna was the new girl at school in season 5. She became friends with Alex quickly, which made Alex nervous because she didn’t want her to know how unpopular she really was.
As the two hung out at the school fair, it was clear how much Alex cared about what Sienna thought. She chased her around all day acting like anything but herself, all to improve for a girl she thought was cool.Could Alex and Sienna's platonic relationship evolve into something more?
David
In the second season, Claire and Phil set Haley up with a tutor named David. Ideally, Haley should have stuck with David throughout high school but her attention span wasn’t there.
Based onDavid’s love for school and his charm, he would have made a nice boyfriend for Alex. They were both dedicated to their school work and could have studied together and motivated each other.
