Hi all,
I'll be travelling to the aqua fun club in marrakech on Sunday, does anyone know if there's any mosquitos about as I have a 4 yr old and a 3 mth old? I have read many negative reviews about the aqua
fun club as well as a few positive ones.

Have never seen a mosquito during my trips to Marrakech thankfully. Hate their high pitched buzz! We were told by the Riad that they do not have a problem with them. However one of the TA local experts would be able to give you a more accurate response.

You need stagnant water for mozzies. That and the correct high temperature. You have the latter for sure!
I have never been bitten in North Africa like I have in Greece and Turkey and Spain and Portugal but that's because it was much drier land. But I have had the odd bite. It is not an area for malaria so that's not a problem but try taking vit. B complex (adults) to change your "smell" if you have "sweet skin"(that's what attracts them to one person and not another) and Avons Skin So Soft dry oil (original) is proven to put the little boogers off also and is a good after-sun apray also.
I have never heard the buzz in Marrakech but then we stayed in the city itself. If you are staying in more open land, I would take precautions anyway such as a machine in the room and you can get bands to wear apart from sprays and creams. They do do anti-mozzie stuff aimed suitable for children

No need to worry, I’ve never seen one in Marrakesh, but again, I always stay in the city so less opportunity for them. I have had a few bites in other more rural areas, but nothing like Greece or other Med countries where it’s really bad.
Too dry and not enough standing water as ej47 said.

There are mosquitoes in Marrakech but they only have a brief season (early Spring) when the females (the ones that puncture skin) lay their eggs in still, not stagnant, water. The larvae are harmless. Not all mosquitoes announce their presence by an annoying whine - it depends on the species. I've seldom been bitten and neither have my guests. Bites are more common from the tiny black ants which are commonly found on roof terraces and gardens/parklands. However they have never posed a serious problem and a simple antihistamine cream (eg Boots own brand if coming from the UK) soon makes the irritation go. Wasps, the European variety, don't exist here, and I've never known the local honey bees (which are very fond of Moroccan sweet patisserie!) to bother anyone either.

Hi,
We don't tend to have a problem in the summer as it's too hot and dry but in the cooler/wetter months the little pests do cause a small problem. A good insect repellant is always handy and as mentioned before one of those plug in things in your bedroom.

Mosquitoes are present in Marrakech from early September to late June, and are rather small and quick, so can be annoyingly hard to catch. They are not numerous, and during the day you will hardly if ever see them...only at night. A fan blowing on oscillate will keep them away from you. The plugs work effectively, but they also seem to leave a nasty, dry taste at the back of your throat.

Mosquitoes also exist in July and August - I know this because I have been bitten. Citronelle is good stuff to use.

I'm going in November or December. Will there be mosquitos about then? The post at the top suggests only July and August would be mosquito free. I have been to Asia and got bitten to scars by them.

Unlikely but not impossible: the weather is generally too cold for mosquitoes to breed successfully.
