The main dish at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is the music, but there is much more to do at the Empire Polo grounds in Indio.
Here's a list of the Top 5 things you should do while at the festival, besides listen to music.
1: Ride the Ferris Wheel. Called La Grande Wheel, it is billed as the "largest portable wheel in North America!" It costs $8 per person, but well worth the view – as long as you're OK with a little swaying. When you're at the top you can faintly hear the band performing on the main Coachella stage – a nice touch.
2: Take a photo of the sunset. You can't beat the sun setting with palm trees, mountains and thousands of people in the background. If you're lucky, as I was on Friday, the moving Caterpillar -- or Papilio Merraculous -- will be walking by at the perfect time.
3: Check out the H & M tent, and not just to shop. There's some cutting edge technology in there that can be lots of fun to try out such as virtual reality goggles, a touch sound wall and aura reader.
4: Have an icy cold one at the Craft Beer Garden. My suggestion is a Bell's brand beer from Kalamazoo in my home state of Michigan. California just started carrying it. They are serving up Two Hearted Ale and Oberon – two of my favorites.
5: Peruse the art. Each year Coachella commissions new and huge pieces of art spread throughout the festival grounds and each year they are amazing. There's Chrono Chromatic, Pulp Pavilion, the Big Horn Palace, Praxis and of course the walking caterpillar and selfie favorite.
