My Hero Academia (Japanese: 僕のヒーローアカデミア, Hepburn: Boku no Hīrō Akademia) is a Japanese superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 2014, with its chapters additionally collected into 36 tankōbon volumes as of October 2022. Set in a world where superpowers (called "Quirks") have become commonplace, the story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy who was born without a Quirk but still dreams of becoming a superhero himself. He is scouted by All Might, Japan's greatest hero, who bestows his Quirk to Midoriya after recognizing his potential, and helps to enroll him in a prestigious high school for superheroes in training. The anime adaptation is known to have been censored during television broadcasts in Southeast Asia.

Chinese censorship[]

The anime and manga is banned due to a character's original true name "Maruta".

Indonesian censorship[]

Broadcasts of the My Hero Academia anime series on RTV and NET in Indonesia were subject to censorship with cropping, zooming, and blacking out of any scenes involving characters in revealing clothing, such as swimsuits. Scenes involving violence were also censored.^[1]
Manga cover art featuring Momo Yaoyorozu was censored because her costume was considered too revealing.^[2]

Philippine censorship[]

Broadcasts of the My Hero Academia anime series on ABS-CBN in the Philippines censored scenes showing off Momo Yayorozu's revealing costume through blurring effects of her cleavage.^[3]

Arabic censorship[]

Any fanservice or anything sexy was cut out.
- Mineta's personality was changed to him being more chaste since perverted behavior is haram.
- The scene where Mt. Lady shows her butt was cropped out.
- Momo's hero costume was digitally edited to cover her entire cleavage, midriff and legs, also, her training uniform covers her entire torso except her neck due to it looking too sexy.
- Female 1-A characters who are in cheerleader costumes are edited to have the legs and torso completely covered (Toru is an exception since she’s too invisible).
- Midnight's outfit was edited out and had her bust size slightly reduced.
- Female 1-A characters wearing swimsuits are digitally added pants (Toru is an exception).

French and Italian censorship[]

Any sex jokes or blood is censored.
- Mineta's personality was changed to become more chaster.
- Toga talks about how she likes to drain people's DNA instead of people's blood to make it less disturbing.

Where to find it uncensored[]

The Japanese version and certain countries remains uncensored and unedited. Streaming services available in Southeast Asia were known to have shown the anime series unedited.
