Biography[]

Nadja was born in Greece sometime in the 15th century and was very disadvantaged during her human life.

Her village, located on a “beautiful” island with a high snake population, was once a utopia, but was burned to the ground by the army of an unknown warrior (who would eventually turn out to be her future roommate Nandor the Relentless) around 200 years before she was born. Only the "stupidest" people were spared and the village never recovered, leaving its citizens badly affected by famine and poverty.

Nadja's family was very poor and had to burn donkey dung and donkeys for warmth.[4] When Nadja was young, her mother was eaten by a bear; her dying screams were supposedly absorbed by her jade necklace that she had given to Nadja shortly beforehand.[1] As a young woman, she worked as a throat singer. One night, while singing to the snakes, Baron Afanas in the form of a snake suddenly bit Nadja on the neck and turned her into a vampire. Nadja was subsequently chased off the island by her fellow villagers, which included her family.

Appearance[]

Nadja is of Greek and Romani ancestry and has long black hair and brown eyes.

Personality[]

She is a ruthless killer and enjoys intense sexual adventures with her husband, Laszlo. She is shown to be out of touch with the human world. She cares a lot about how she is perceived by vampire society, such as in “The Orgy” where she is obsessed with throwing a good orgy in order to maintain her social status.[1]

Sexuality[]

Nadja has an ongoing affair with her oft reincarnated lover, Gregor, who does not always reincarnate as a man or even as a human.[2]

In an interview, executive producer, co-showrunner, and writer on the series, Paul Simms, stated that Nadja, as well as other characters, is pansexual.[3]

Relationships[]

Laszlo Cravensworth[]

Laszlo is her husband whom she turned during a sexual encounter. They have an open relationship in which they are free to pursue other partners, barring Gregor, who Laszlo dislikes because he often upsets Nadja. They have a very active sex life.

Gregor[]

Gregor is Nadja’s often reincarnated lover who has a tendency to get his head cut off(sometimes by Nadja). He is known to have been reincarnated as a knight, a washer woman, a horse, and as Jeff Suckler, a human living in New York.

Baron Afanas[]

Nadja’s sire and former lover. They enjoyed an intense sexual affair before she went to Staten Island.

Jenna[]

Nadja tricks Jenna into allowing herself to be turned into a vampire by framing the encounter as sexual. Jenna thinks that the experience was meant to be a sexual encounter until she dies and becomes a vampire.
