What is considered a neutral alcohol? ›

Neutral alcohols are made from a variety of raw materials, including sugarcane molasses, barley, corn, wheat, rice, and rye. This alcohol also has no taste or smell, making it organoleptically neutral. The primary use for Neutral Alcohol is its function as a base for spirits, distillates, and alcoholic beverages.

Grain Neutral Spirits (GNS)

Arguably the most popular neutral spirit. Neutral alcohol made from grains is called grain neutral spirits (GNS), neutral grain spirits (NGS) or neutral grain alcohol. The most popular grains to make GNS are corn, wheat, barley, and rye.
