Who’s with me on this one? Okay, truth be told I go back and forth between slaying in stiletto heels as high as my ego, and wearing flip-flops with a power suit? Btw, can I do that? By the looks of fashion for the past 3 years we kinda can do whatever the hell we want, with a slight business etiquette and office-attire-attention in mind.So, in office shoes land – theoretically we can wear slippers to work.
Work attire has to be appropriate, slightly formal, smart, clean, you can go for edgy, comfy, chic, sophisticated, basic, super business, or super laid back depending on your job.
Nevertheless a great office look will always be all the above with a little bit of ‘you’ in there as well.
Some women love to strut in heels. They feel empowered by the sexy strong shoes, yet even the biggest heel strutters out there get sneakers days or flip-flop cravings on a Monday. Especially in summer, when walking in heels under the sun is no fun. It’s on such hot lazy days, when all you can think about is lying on the beach with your feet soaking in the sea, that you’d wish you could go barefoot to work.
The bad news is you can’t. The good news is you can do the next best thing: wear slippers slides to work. No eye-roll please, it’s as good as you’ll ever get to flip-flops.
What exactly are slippers slides?
Remember the Birkenstocks from a few years back. Yeah. Those are one slides style: casual, ugly but kinda cool. With today’s fashion turning so much to athleisure, laid back vibes, and fun pieces it really feels as if we’re all a bit more relaxed about what we wear, and we do tend to experiment more with clothes. Without ever losing her penchant for luxe and sophistication fashion is giving us that premise. It’s like she says: “okay you wanna wear flip-flips to work AND still be taken seriously? Fine. Here they are.”
Slides for work come a dime a dozen. They can be the polished sleek and minimal version of the slippers, or they can be so embellished and opulent and luxe as if they’re having a whole party at your feet.
The key to wearing slides to work and actually getting away with it is to always pick a pair that works well with your outfit and it doesn’t look too laid back, too holiday-vibe.
If all else fails but you still wanna do it, try this: monochromatic look (all black or all white), black patent slides (Birkenstocks inspired, or even classic mules inspired), minimal tote bag, and a pair of sunglasses. Shut the front door.
