If you feel like you’re looking for love in all the wrong places, one survey has uncovered where the most single people live in the United States, and Buffalo, New York comes in at the top of the charts.
The Thriving Center of Psychology recently published a new survey on dating trends combined with 2021 U.S. Census data to find out where the more than 127 million single people 18 years and older living in America can be found.
They examined the 100 most populous cities in the country and ranked the cities on average per capita.
The Queen City ranked first in the most single women in the country and third in the most single residents overall. The only cities with more singletons were Richmond, VA and Pittsburgh, PA.
Comparatively, Buffalo ranked ninth in most single men.
This isn’t the first time the Western New York city has been called out for being a top spot to be single. In 2022, LendingTree named Buffalo the best large city in the United States to be unattached. The city ranked high on the list because of relatively low housing prices, low commute times, and a high percentage of people living alone.
According to another LendingTree study, single women in Buffalo are doing it for themselves. In 2021, it was reported that there were more single women owning homes than single men in the city. Nationally, it ranked fourth in the top five metro areas for single woman homeowners.
The Thriving Center of Psychology went on to survey over 1,000 people about their thoughts on Valentine’s Day, how Americans feel being single, and the dreaded dating apps. Out of the 69% of people surveyed said they are content with their singledom and of those, 91% said they are enjoying their freedom.
