While these couples have amassed a large fanbase, the fans' love for them may have also blinded them to a few plot holes. Especially in the show. Don't believe it? From Frank's quick acceptance to Jamie's marriage to Laoghaire, a lot doesn't make sense.

How Quick Frank Was To Accept Claire's Story

One of the strangest moments in the show has to be Frank's instant belief in Claire's story. Unlike his character in the book, Claire's story isn't met with skepticism or disbelief. In fact, Frank is nothing but warm and understanding of her plight.

He doesn't get angry at the fact that she fell in love with another man and he soon gets over the fact that she is pregnant with another man's child. Maybe this was to show the noble side to Frank but it seems a little fast that he can get over it and take her to America with him.

Considering he lived in a society where beliefs in the occult and supernatural were at an all-time high, Jamie took to Claire's secret well. When Jamie recognized that Claire had a pox scar that was similar to Geillis', he wasted no time in asking whether she was a witch.

When Claire told him she was from the future and the outcome of the Jacobite Rebellion, Jamie listened to her with compassion and understanding. Even Claire was surprised when he didn't march her back to the witch trial - which probably would have happened in real life...

How Did Claire And Frank Get Over The Jack Randall Similarity?

Another aspect of Claire and Frank's relationship that raises a lot of questions is how Claire managed to overcome the similarity between Frank and Captain Randall. Considering she spent nearly three years of her life being tormented by Frank's ancestor, you would assume that Claire would struggle to look Frank in the eye.

While she did flinch at his appearance when he first came to see her, Claire seemed to get over it quickly. Still, although they are not the same person, surely Frank's presence would have reminded her of her ordeal?

Claire And Jamie's Relationship Is Not Healthy

Although Jamie and Claire's romance is depicted as one of the greatest love stories on television, some may reconsider this after this entry. Why? Because some have suggested that Claire may have Stockholm Syndrome. Think about it. Jamie helped keep her hostage, didn't try to help her escape, and then agreed to marry her.

By the time Jamie decided to let her go, Claire had already formed a deep attachment to him and the Clan. If many people are coming to this conclusion, doesn't that mean we should stop calling it "a great love story?"

Frank Hiding Jamie's Survival

Outlander: 5 Things That Made No Sense About Claire & Frank (& 5 Things About Claire & Jamie) (5)

Another question that has been raised is why Frank kept Jamie's survival a secret? If Frank was so in love with his mistress and was happy in the relationship then why did he go to great lengths to conceal Jamie's existence? He hid Jamie's obituary, ordered a headstone to be placed on Culloden Moor, and never said anything about it.

If Frank was planning on divorcing Claire anyway then he could have told her. It makes you wonder - did Frank do this out of spite or love?

Claire Asking Jamie To Save Frank's Life

Fans have also questioned the nature of Claire and Jamie's relationship when Claire asked the Highlander to save Frank's life. Since Claire had chosen to spend her life with Jamie, one would think that she would sever all ties with her past (or the future).

However, season 2 saw Claire neglect Jamie's wishes when she asked him to put his vengeance on hold to ensure Frank's survival. She even went out of her way to sabotage other people's happiness to make sure he lived. If she was committed to Jamie, then why was she putting Frank ahead of everyone else?

Frank's Expectations Of Claire

Another thing that made no sense about Frank and Claire's relationship was Frank's hurt to Claire's infidelity. When fans first saw Claire and Frank, their relationship was depicted as some whirlwind romance. They may have looked extremely loyal to one another but this is only because they were in the honeymoon stage.

When Claire married Frank, she was only 19 years old. A year later, they were separated by the war and didn't see each other until 1945/46. They didn't even get far into their second honeymoon before she went through the stones and didn't return until three years later. They basically spent 10 years apart and were practically strangers at this point so should Frank feel so betrayed?

Another thing that made no sense about Jamie and Claire's relationship was the Scotsman's willingness to marry to Laoghaire. In season 3, fans were shocked to discover Jamie had married Laoghaire in Claire's twenty-year absence.

RELATED:

Considering that Laoghaire had tried to kill Claire on more than one occasion, one would wonder what was running through his mind when he agreed to the union. Out of all the lonely widows in the country, why chose Laoghaire? It seems completely disrespectful to Claire and their relationship.

Why Didn't Frank And Claire Divorce In Secret

Outlander: 5 Things That Made No Sense About Claire & Frank (& 5 Things About Claire & Jamie) (9)

If Frank and Claire were planning to start anew in America, then why didn't they get divorced while they were in England? Instead of living in misery for 20 years, Frank could have agreed to help raise Brianna but lead his own life. It's not as if they were afraid of a scandal since Frank had spent several years dating Sandy while they were married.

They could have just pretended to be married until Bree was old enough and then split up. Their last fight could have been prevented this way...

No Mention Of Faith

Outlander: 5 Things That Made No Sense About Claire & Frank (& 5 Things About Claire & Jamie) (10)

One aspect of Jamie and Claire's relationship that has raised a couple of questions is to why the couple never mentions Faith? As fans remember, Claire and Jamie underwent a huge tragedy when their first child, Faith, was stillborn. It was a loss that haunted the couple for the rest of season 2.

However, a couple of seasons later and fans are wondering why the pair hardly ever mention her anymore - even to Brianna. It doesn't seem like this is something a couple could ever forget...
