Determining Jamie and Claire's ages in the cast of Outlander season 6 (and beyond) is a complicated bit of math. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Starz's Outlander season 6 finally debuted on March 6th, 2022, ending the so-called “Droughtlander” and sending Claire and Jamie back to prepare for the American Revolution. In a series that spans multiple centuries and jumps between dual timelines, many have been left wondering what Claire and Jamie’s ages are in each season.
Outlander follows Claire (played by Belfast movie cast member Caitriona Balfe), a young nurse who is reunited with her (first) husband, Frank, after World War II, only to be whisked away through time after touching a magical stone at Scotland’s Craigh na Dun. Arriving in 1743, she meets Jamie and they fall in love. Outlander season 2 sees Claire return to the 20th century to raise her and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, with her first husband, Frank, while still grieving Jamie who she believes died in the Battle of Culloden. Claire travels through time again in Outlander season 3 to find and reunite with Jamie after learning that Jamie survived the battle. The pair make a life together in the 18th century, welcoming the arrival of Brianna and her boyfriend, Roger, in Outlander season 4 after theytime travel. Outlander season 5 saw Claire and Jamie’s family settle in North Carolina, at their homestead, Fraser’s Ridge.

Outlander season 5 saw the stars of the cast of Outlander, Jamie and Claire, in their 50s, working to prepare Fraser’s Ridge for the American Revolution. Outlander season 6 then began where Outlander season 5 left off, with events unfolding from Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes. This means that Claire was in her late 50s and Jamie was 55 by the end of Outlander season 6.
How Old Claire & Jamie Are In Outlander Season 6
According to author Diana Gabaldon (via Diana Gabaldon), Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp was born in October 1918 and Jamie (played by Sam Heughan who stars with House of the Dragon’s Graham McTavish in the other Scottish Starz series, Men in Kilts) was born in 1721. This means that the pair are actually 197 years apart. However, they meet in 1743 following Claire’s time travel. Though the books have Claire time traveling from the year 1946, the Starz series has her journey from 1945, which means that, in the TV series, Claire meets Jamie when he is 22, and she is 27.
Outlander season 5 spans from 1770 to 1772, with Claire at 54 when the season begins and Jamie at 49. Outlander season 6 picks up right after season 5 ends (on the brink of the American Revolution) and is based on Gabaldon's book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, which spans the years of 1773-1776. Claire and Jamie are therefore still in their 50s, with Claire starting Outlander season 6's story at age 57 and Jamie at 52. This means that Jamie and Claire are about 60 and 55 respectively by the end of Outlander season 6.
How Old Claire & Jamie Will Be In Season 7
Since Outlander season 7 picks up where season 6 left off, Claire and Jamie should be the same ages that they were in the season 6 finale, though they could age more over the course of season 7. Outlander season 7 was confirmed in 2021, about a year before season 6 was even out, and the cast of Outlander should remain largely intact. Since filming for season 7 began in March 2022, and it will be twice as long as season 6 (at a whopping 16 episodes), it probably won't arrive any sooner than early 2023. Fortunately, this isn't nearly as long as the wait between seasons 5 and 6, which made all Outlander fans feel older regardless of Claire and Jamie's ages.
