In 1986, Bernie Liu proposed to his parents that they shift their garment manufacturing company into a fashion retail enterprise. This idea brought to life the fashion brand PENSHOPPE, starting with only 40 employees, and as the new kid on the block, found an opportunity to be inventive and adventurous.

To keep up with the time, Penshoppe Philippines has launched a mobile shopping app. It allows users to browse its catalogue, which is updated with the latest collections, right as they come out.

In 1986, some college friends and I came up with one great idea. We thought of designing a set of graphic T-shirts that would cater specifically to teenagers and young adults. Hence the name “Penshoppe.” We wanted our clothes to be as accessible and indispensable to students' lifestyles as the ubiquitous pen.

The retailer has 700 stores across Asia and the Middle East. Its largest Asian markets outside the Philippines are Indonesia and Cambodia – and in Vietnam where the company recently opened a store inside the new VivoCity mall in District 7. “We are very encouraged by the response in Vietnam,” Liu said in an interview.
