Phil Milstein (2024)

Phil Milstein is a recurring character on Grace and Frankie. He is portrayed by Sam Elliott.

Character[]

Phil is a calm, decent and caring man. He met Grace in 2000, when he remodelled part of Grace and Robert's house. His wife has Alzheimer's.

Story[]

When Grace and Phil met, they instantly felt a connection and soon meeting up at a bar called The Anchor. Phil was married at the time, but tells Grace in 2015, that after their fling he told his wife everything and they decided to divorce. However, his wife got Alzheimer's shortly after and Phil couldn't bear to leave her in a lurch. Phil confesses to Grace he is still married to her, although she's at an advanced stage of her illness, so it's not really a relationship and he seems prepared to be with Grace.

Phil tells Grace it's up to her if she wants to start something and Grace, struggling with the situation, meets Phil to tell him they're through. Phil is sad, but takes it like a gentleman. Grace can't leave and kisses him, starting their relationship. They enjoy each other and are dazzlingly happy until Phil's wife, Elaine, has an episode and Phil must leave to care for her. Grace ends up inadvertently meeting Elaine, who experiences a rare moment of clarity and knows that it's Grace. Unable to handle it, Grace leaves Phil for good.

Two years later, Robert mentions to everyone at Mary's funeral that Phil recently passed away. Grace, even with her new boyfriend Nick Skolka, mourns him throughout the rest of the season and is having a hard time processing his death.
