For Williams, the third time was the charm. He originally competed in season seven of the original “Project Runway” series back in 2010. He was eliminated in seventh place, but then brought back after another contestant withdrew from the competition. Ultimately, he ended that season in fifth place. Then he took part in the first ever season of “All Stars” in 2012, but that didn’t go any better for him: he was sent home in ninth place. So he had a lot to prove stepping into the “Runway” workroom for the third time this year. And he certainly proved it, defeating two other finalists — Fabio Costa and Stanley Hudson — who had made the finals in their original appearances on “Runway.”

He wasn’t the only “All Stars” champ who came in looking for redemption. The first season was won by Mondo Guerra, who had been the runner-up in season eight of the original “Runway.” AndAnthony Ryan Auld won season two of “All Stars” after finishing seventh in season nine of “Runway.”

But sometimes, when you’ve got it you’ve got it. The next three “All Stars” winners had also won their original seasons: Seth Aaron Henderson (season seven of “Runway,” season three of “All Stars”), Dmitry Sholokhov (season 10 of “Runway,” season four of “All Stars”) and Dom Streater (season 12 of “Runway,” season five of “All Stars”). There was no chance of that happening this season as there were no previous winners among this year’s 16 “All Stars” contestants.
