SPOILER AHEAD. On tonight’s Project Runway — not Project Runway: The Student Show — hot-headed drama queen (redundant!) Sandro Masmanidi, 28, busted out of the Parsons luxury prison cell after raising his voice and speaking with his hands (pictured) toward some of the other designers. Upset about the lack of feedback on his bow tie-inspired gown, Sandro returned to the waiting area ready to pick a fight. And then he just ran away!
Sadly, Tim didn’t pull out a “What happened to Andre? WHERE’S ANDRE?” throwback. This was neither the time nor the place. The judges were already in the model-pawing stage of their artistic process, so Tim calmly informed Heidi of the distracting Sandro situation.
I’m sorry but if being obsessed with Nina Garcia’s reaction that Sandro went missing is wrong…
…then I don’t want to be right. Delicious!
In the end, Sandro eliminated himself by not trotting back. That’s quite the lucky break for Jeremy Brandrick, Sue Waller, and Miranda Levy, who landed in the bottom three — especially the latter two.
It’s very clear to me that Sandro basically just wants to already be Zac Posen (who wouldn’t?) and thinks he’s such a character that he should be the one up there being theatrical and making catty comments as a respected fashion authority. His competitiveness (against someone not even in the competition!) and combativeness got the better of him to the point where it wasn’t even about his design; it was about this mental war Sandro had going on with Posen.
I do see where Sandro’s coming from re: wanting ANY commentary after one has been declared safe. The lack of judges’ insight has always struck me as a disadvantage for the designers who are consistently in the middle of the pack. But that’s just the way it’s always been, and this isn’t the Sandro show.
I loved how as soon as Sandro (politely, for him) demanded “What do you guys think?” Zac was able to fire off a succinct, biting, perfect critique.
“It looks like someone went home with a man in an evening gown and came back with a tie attached to it and her dress ripped. It looked like the walk of shame after an awards show.”
Are you glad Sandro is gone or did you love his irrational drama?
And did his freakout overshadow “THE WINNER OF THIS CHALLENGE!” Bradon McDonald’s incredibly sweet and profound marriage proposal to his partner Josh, or are you still wiping tears away with your spare bow ties (even if they are just paper towels twisted into bow ties) and re-watching their triumphant Prop 8-overturned video chat again and again?
What an episode! Jesse Tyler Ferguson = A DELIGHT.
Stay tuned for EW’s full recap… Update: Here it is!

Project Runway
Karlie Kloss and Christian Siriano guide undiscovered designers through the harrowing rites of fashion.
The Russian designer with the drama queen personality decided to leave during the fourth challenge that required a gown that incorporated a bow tie. Sandro was declared to be safe and should have simply left the runway.
Brooklyn, N.Y., native Keith Michael, 34, was asked to leave because he had pattern-making books in his room – a violation of the contest's rules – and at one point had gone AWOL from the production.
