Review | Hunter Short Play Rain Boots! — Dedreanna (1)

Hunter boots are a rainy day staple, and something I’ve had my eye on for YEARS! Being plus size basically my entire life meant that the classic tall Hunter boots just wouldn’t work with my body.

My family asked what I wanted for Easter this year, and my mind kept going back to rubber boots. I’ve been going on more walks with my beagle Jasper lately, and wanted something I could wear on rainy days. I wanted to do this review to showcase the quality, but also to show other plus size women how they fit, and what I love about them.

These are the Hunter Short Play Insulated Rain Boots, in the colour “Zinc Grey”. Currently the insulated ones only come in black, so I’ve linked the regular ones above. They retail for around $130, but I bought mine on clearance for around $65. The Zinc Grey were the only colour on clearance when I purchased mine, but I would LOVE to get them in yellow some day! (I have a dream of someday owning a yellow rain coat and matching boots haha)

Things To Note:

  • They are really great quality. They feel very heavy duty and durable.

  • When it comes to buying Hunter boots as a plus size person, stay away from the “Chelsea” style boot. From what I’ve read of plus size reviews, even though they are short, they are extremely tight around the ankle and often cause indents/pain while being worn.

  • They are HARD to get on, but once they are on they aren’t tight at all. They have a pull tab on the back to help you get them off and on. Once my foot is in, I have tons of room. Using the pull tab, it usually just takes one or two pulls to get them on. These are not boots that your feet will just slide into. I would take that into account if you are pregnant, or have any issues with bending/pulling shoes on.

  • They have a removable insole. I’m not sure if this is just the insulated version or not, but I like that it can be taken out to dry if needed.

  • Hunter shipping was fairly fast. Living in Canada, I had no duty or extra fees to pay. They shipped out of a warehouse in Canada to get to me.

  • I bought these on the Hunter website, but you can also get Hunter boots at The Shoe Company, Winners, Soft Moc, etc.

  • They fit true to size. I wear size 10 and ordered these in a 10. The Shoe Company website at the time had size 11 in yellow and I almost bought those, but reviews said they fit true to size/a bit big and I didn't want them to be huge on me.

  • Hunter rain boots are NOT meant to be worn in the winter. In case you find this post during winter months, I just wanted to add that as a little note. After doing a lot of research on these boots before buying, I discovered that they are not meant for cold winter weather, as it can cause them to crack over time. They are also very slippery on ice, so be mindful of that.

I would encourage you to go to the store and try them on before purchasing, as they will fit different on everyone. Overall, I really love them so far and would definitely repurchase in the future!
