Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has revealed she wore extensions on the show to hide her hair loss.
In the role of Hayley Dunphy, the ditzy older sister, Sarah would typically sport straight or wavy brunette hair – but the actress has recently appeared off-screen with a shorter, curlier do.
Speaking to Refinery29, Sarah explained her hair is actually naturally curly, even more so since she started growing it back.
"This is just my natural hair. I just had extensions in for Modern Family," she said. "With medications and stuff, it can make your hair fall out. So I had extensions put in for Haley to hide any of that loss."
"My hair that's growing back now is much curlier than what it used to be. It's like I'm four years old now, I guess.
She added: "I wear it curly because I don't know how to do my hair. I try to blow it out, and it's just a frizzy mess. It looks like an avant-garde runway look."
Last month, Sarah paid tribute to the Modern Family cast and crew for supporting her during her health battles.
Speaking on Good Morning America, the actress explained how the cast and crew always knew if she wasn't feeling well and would be there for her if she needed anything.
