Does SEAL Team 6 still exist? ›

SEAL Team Six was disbanded in 1987, and its role, minus non-counter-terrorism ship-boarding, which was given to the newly formed SEAL Team 8, given to the newly formed DEVGRU. Since the start of war on terror, DEVGRU has evolved into a multi-functional special operations unit with a worldwide operational mandate.

SEAL Team 6, common name for an elite U.S. military special missions unit consisting of Navy SEALs (Sea, Air, and Land forces). SEAL Team 6 is best known for the 2011 raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.

Naval Special Warfare Group ONE

NSWG-1 is based in Coronado, CA. It commands, trains, equips and deploys SEAL Teams 1, 3, 5, and 7. It also exercises administrative control of Naval Special Warfare Unit 1 (NSWU-1) in Guam, and Naval Special Warfare Unit 3 (NSWU-3) in Bahrain.
