Shein is a Chinese online fast fashion retailer headquartered in Singapore. Founded in Nanjing, China in October 2008 as ZZKKO by entrepreneur Chris Xu, Shein grew to become the world's largest fashion retailer as of 2022.

Shein´s reputation has been on the spot for several reasons: allegations of use of forced labor, unsustainable business model, ESG non compliance, unfair usage of countries taxation laws, and others.

While one should be very careful to analyze the company and investigate the allegations above, we need also pay attention to the points below that shape the current reality of the company in face of its competitors.

  1. Target Market: Shein primarily targets young, fashion-conscious consumers, especially women aged 16 to 35. Their product offerings cater to the latest fashion trends at affordable prices, appealing to price-sensitive customers looking for trendy clothing options.

  3. Fast Fashion Approach: Shein adopts a fast fashion business model, focusing on quickly bringing the latest fashion trends to market. They maintain close relationships with manufacturers, enabling them to introduce new designs and styles at a rapid pace. By leveraging this approach, Shein can offer a diverse range of products and stay ahead of competitors in terms of variety.
  4. Data-Driven Decision Making: Shein heavily relies on data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to drive decision-making processes.
