Is it hard to get into Holy Ghost Prep? ›

The number of families interested in Holy Ghost Prep is consistently high. The admissions team communicates with anywhere between 500 to 600 new inquiries each year. As many as 300 of those inquiries complete an application, and just 155 of those inquiries were accepted last year.

Dress is casual. Additional information will be provided in the July opening of school packet sent via email. FRIDAY, AUGUST 23 - First Day of Freshman Classes. All freshmen will report for an abbreviated class day.

Holy Ghost Prep is the only Spiritan high school in the United States, and each of the nearly 450 students on campus is known and valued for who he is and for the unique gifts he possesses.

This is why red and blue are the colors of HGP. Additionally, the shield of HGP incorporates some key elements of traditional heraldry. Blue typically represents loyalty and truth, red signifies fortitude and magnanimity, and white points to peace and sincerity.

At Holy Ghost Prep, a premier all-boys high school, classes are small, so interaction is a given. With a 9-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, our unmatched faculty will get to personally know each student, as well as his hopes and dreams.

The everyday uniform includes a short-sleeved polo shirt [navy or white], khaki shorts or trousers for both boys and girls, and a tan or plaid skirt for the girls.

History. Father John Tuohill Murphy founded Holy Ghost Prep in 1897 as Holy Ghost Apostolic College, a preparatory school and junior-college seminary for young men studying to become Congregation of the Holy Spirit members. In the 1950s, the school started to move its college-level program to Duquesne University.

Holy Ghost Prep has been a proud member of the BAL since the 1970s. Our independent status will allow us to develop some new rivalries, while still giving us the opportunity to schedule some games against our long-time rivals too.

Holy Ghost Prep was recently named the No. 3 “Best Catholic High School in Pennsylvania” and received an overall grade of A+ from Niche, an organization that reviews and ranks schools nationwide. These Niche rankings include all of the private and diocesan schools in the state.
