Signs you need to drink more water (2024)

Why drink more water?

Your body is around 60% water. So, when it comes being healthy and feeling cool, water is king – it keeps you hydrated and healthy. Did you know it also can help you look and smell better?

Sweat regulates our body’s temperature. If you’re working out, for example, your body temperature will rise (that’s why your face goes red, champ). That’s when your body turns on the sweat, to bring your temperature back down into normal range. Sweat is a good thing, actually – you don’t want to run out of it! And for that, you need hydration.

We don’t need to tell you the #1 sign of dehydration, but we will: it’s being thirsty! Are you on the lookout for these other sneaky signs you’re dehydrated and need to drink more water?

What happens when you drink less water?

  • You’re tired and cranky even though you slept. That’s right! Water gives you more energy, makes you feel alert and puts you in a better mood all round. If you’re feeling under the weather, always start with a glass of H2O.
  • You have more body odor than usual. Sweat is mostly water, so if you’re low on fluids, it can be more concentrated and smell stronger. If your sweat smells particularly strong, guzzle a glass of water. While you top up on that water, neutralize odor with a deodorant or antiperspirant.
  • You feel hungry despite having eaten. It’s weird how much of an impact water makes. If you’re snacking more than usual or feel the desire to nibble on something after a big lunch, it could be thirst in disguise. Have some water and wait 20 minutes to see if that helps.
  • You’ve stopped sweating. Remember, sweat is a sign your body is working! While you can control it with antiperspirant, it’s normal to sweat when being active or working out. If you’ve had a particularly vigorous day and you’ve stopped sweating, that’s an early sign of dehydration. Chug!
  • You have dry skin. Lack of water causes dry skin. If you have some rough or scaly patches on your body you can’t explain, try drinking more water on a regular basis. In the meantime, use a sensitive bodywash like our new Fresh Collectionthat’s gentle on the skin.

If you’re avoiding drinking ‘coz you think it might make you sweat more, well, the jury’s still out on that one! Turns out that while water, hydration and sweat are all linked, it’s not as simple as that. So don’t avoid hydrating because you are afraid of sweat and body odor. That’s what we’re here for! Our products will have your back andour tipswill keep you protected from sweat while you make like Sponge Bob and soak up that water.
