Simon makes deal to keep Ann Taylor, LOFT and Lane Bryant mall stores open - Bizwomen (2024)

Ann Taylor, LOFT and Lane Bryant stores located at Simon Property Group malls will stay open thanks to a new agreement.

Real estate advisory services firm RCS Real Estate Advisors said it has facilitated a deal between Premium Brands, the owner and operator of the Ann Taylor and LOFT apparel brands, and Lane Bryant, the owner and operator of the Lane Bryant apparel brand, and Simon Property Group, to keep the stores open.

New York-based RCS said it filed with the bankruptcy court on February 18th to assume the leases involved, and that Simon had withdrawn their objection to the go-forward plan.

“We are pleased to have played a key role for our clients Premium Brands and Lane Bryant by utilizing our long-standing landlord relationships to reach an agreement that is beneficial to both sides,” said Ivan L. Friedman, president and CEO of RCS Real Estate Advisors.

Simon Property Group in February had tried to block Ascena Retail Group’s Chapter 11 reorganization out of a fear that it would allow Sycamore Partners, which bought several Ascena brands out of bankruptcy, to close more stores, weakening a master lease agreement the mall operator originally negotiated with Ascena.

Premium Apparel LLC, an affiliate of Sycamore, bought Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant and Lou & Grey brands from Ascena in December for $540 million, agreeing to keep at least 900 stores open.
