(n.) There's a reason why this syrup is called "simple." It's a basic combination of sugar and water. Simple syrup offers an easy way to add sweetness to a co*cktail without having to dissolve granular sugar in the glass. Though it is commonly made with equal amounts of sugar and water, rich simple syrup calls for a larger proportion of sugar. The syrup can be made by simply dissolving superfine sugar into water, or the mixture can be heated in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves.
