I am due a baby girl at the end of Feb. DH and I already have a gorgeous 2 year old called Isabella Rose. We would like a name preferably ending in A but not beginning with S as our surname does, goes well with Isabella and quite classic(not too eccentric). We would be very grateful for suggestions!

Madeleine, Primrose, Lilian, Freya, Margot, Elizabeth, Florence, Cora, Delphine, Victoria, Josephine.
I especially love Josephine with Isabella.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought of Rose or Rosie but that is Isabella's middle name - they go together beautifully though.
How about Mathilda/Matilda? I know it does not end with an a but I also think Annie goes well.

Alexandra. Classic, same length as Isabella, ends in a, doesn't start with s.

Or possibly Miranda.

I have a DD with one of the names already mentioned by other people here and thought Isabella would go well with them (am pregnant with DC2).
Is your DD's nn Izzy/Issie?
I think all of these names, all on my shortlist, would go well and fit your criteria (one is my DD's name):
Florence
Delphine
Elizabeth
Madeleine
Josephine
OP, BTW, what are you thinking for middle name? My DD's middle name is also "Rose" (are you me?).

Rosemary?
BabyIsabella · 22/02/2011 21:00
Thanks PukeyMummy . DD is called Isabella and not Izzy. I am liking Madeleine (is that pronounced Madel-IN or Madel-EYE-n?)
I haven't really thought of middle names because I want to pick the first name and see what goes with it. It will probably be something simple like Rose.
DH's favourite is Ophelia, which I quite like. What do you fellow Mumsnetters think?

I'm another who saw the title thread and thought "Rose" until I saw it is your dd's middle name. I love Ophelia, but it is a very sad name, and for that reason I wouldn't use it. How about Anna? Or Aurora? Imogen?

hellymelly Why do you think Ophelia is a sad name?

Suffered a tragic death in Hamlet if I remember my schoolhood Shakespeare
BabyIsabella · 22/02/2011 21:20
So should I think about using it or not?

Ophelia is beautiful but totally unusable IMHO.
"Oh, woe is me,
T' have seen what I have seen, see what I see!"
Proceeds to die (suicide IIRC). Most famous depiction is of her dead/dying in river (very beautifully).
Anna?

I think Amelia and Isabella go well together.
PukeyMummy · 22/02/2011 21:44
Madeleine is pronounced Madel-IN (English) or Madel-EN (French) - this is the traditional spelling (IMHO).
Madeline is Madel-EYE-n.
