Shoulder Pad Size Chart: Shoulder Pad Fitting

  1. Determine chest size of athlete by measuring chest circumference around nipple line.
  2. Check to see that (a) clavicle (collarbone) is adequately covered by padding and not exposed, and (b) neck opening is adequate.
  3. Check to see that (shoulder) joint is adequately covered by top portion of arch area and deltoid padding, Which must extend to outside edge of shoulder.
  4. Check to see that anterior deltoid (front of shoulder) is adequately coved by extension of arch padding.
  5. Secure elastic underarm strap tightly to achieve proper fit and to stabilize pad so it cannot shift. Straps should be snug enough to allow only a two-finger width when inserted under straps.
  6. Check to see that scapula (shoulder blade) is adequately covered by arch and lateral extension of padding. Arch padding should extend below base of scapula.
  7. Check to see that there is enough clearance to either side of neck roll when hands are raised in a normal movement.
  8. Check to make sure pad is centered on player, and front laces are secured firmly. Check to see that there is not excessive room at juncture of sternum and clavicle.

Final check. Do a final inspection with helmet and jersey on player.

Remember that a properly fit and worn jersey also will help hold down pad in proper position. These fitting instructions should be used as a standard guide only. Players with different body builds and muscle structure may require special attention.

Shoulder Pad Information

HOOK-UPS

  • How the fasteners on the end of the elastic straps attach to the plastic shell
  • Keyhole - a fastener constructed with a hole that attaches to a metal post located on the front of the shoulder pad shell
  • T-hook - a fastener constructed in the shape of a "T". The "T" shape fits into a slot on the front the shoulder pad. Slots reinforced with metal are more durable.

PADDING

  • Foam covered by nylon
  • Dual Density Foam - open and closed cell foam. Outside foam is denser to disperse the impact. Inside foam is softer for cushioning

PRE-DRILLED FOR ACCESSORY ATTACHMENT

  • Shoulder pads that are equipped with holes to attach neck rolls, rib combo, back and sternum plates
  • Shell - the outer covering of the shoulder pad that gives it shape and helps to disperse impact.' Constructed from high density polyethylene plastic.
  • Arch - the main piece of the shoulder pad that is a curved structure used as support

MAINTENANCE

  • Periodically check accessory attachments, condition of underarm straps, laces, and arch padding.
  • Shoulder pads minimize the possibility of injury to the specific body part covered. Never modify or alter shoulder pad without the written permission of the manufacture. Protective capacity could be reduced. This equipment does not guarantee that the player will be protected from serious, disabling or permanent injury, suffered while playing Football.

To size your Standard Series shoulder pad, please follow these instructions as close as possible. Using a flexible tape, measure ( in inches ) straight across the players back from shoulder tip to shoulder tip, as seen in the illustration below. DO NOT measure up and over the neck and neck muscles for your measurement. Use the corresponding size chart to arrive at the size of shoulder pad you are ordering.
