As many new fashion trends open up the question is: What jeans fit the wave; baggy or skinny? In most fashion trends, I tend to see more baggy jeans due to the way they sit on the bottom. For example, oversized 501s have been getting a lot more attention. Some say that skinny jean fashion is dead and won’t be revived for awhile, if it’s ever revived. The trend explains the 2020-2021 fashion jeans style as a normal fitted waist with baggy material around the legs, butt, and hips.
Many fashion styles come from trends which usually build peoples outfits. For example, a popular one was the VSCO style which involved skinny jeans. Although this was a very popular trend, you usually do not see many people wearing skinny jeans as of 2022.
Many fashion trends contain baggy clothes with baggy jeans. They say it feels more comfortable and looks better. People also say wearing baggy clothes makes them feel less insecure about their bodies due to the fact it doesn’t present your body structure as much as skinny jeans would.
I asked some people their thoughts and opinions on the fashion trends today and what they contain.
Aiden Garcia, a Pitman High School Junior, was asked the question:
“If you had to choose between baggy or skinny jeans what would you pick?”
He responded with: “I would wear baggy jeans because I dress mostly comfortably and when I wore skinny jeans it felt like my legs were suffocating.”
“Do you think skinny or baggy fits 2022 style more?”
“I think that baggy jeans fit 2022 fashion trends not only because, like I said , they are comfortable to wear [but] they also look better on outfits people wear.”
“Do you follow fashion trends?”
“To be honest I don’t, but I see people’s everyday style and that can tell me what the trends are for clothing. I feel like baggy jeans also introduce belts a lot more which could add to your style.”
I also brought these questions to Alexander Saavedra, another Pitman High School Junior.
“If you had to choose between baggy or skinny jeans what would you pick?”
“I would pick a mix between both because [jeans that are] too skinny are uncomfortable but a bag I feel picks up a lot more dirt and other stuff. I also think baggy looks messy on people [sometimes].”
“Do you think skinny or baggy fits 2022 style more?”
“I do think it fits the style more than skinny jeans”
“Do you follow fashion trends?”
“Yes, I try too. That’s why I feel like not too baggy, not too skinny is perfect not only because of what I said but I also think following trends makes me look basic, so only wearing baggy jeans wouldn’t be for me. If you look around, a lot of people wear baggy jeans for many different styles and with different personalities”
Lastly, I asked junior, Mario Torres. Pitman high school
“If you had to choose between baggy or skinny jeans what would you pick?”
“I would pick baggy because in the bay area (I am from east side San Jose) not too many people wear skinny jeans.”
“Do you think skinny or baggy fits 2022 style more?”
“I think most people wear skinny jeans around here but on the eastside of San Jose, you don’t see skinny jeans.”
“Do you follow fashion trends?”
“I do not follow fashion trends cuz I’m a beast. (then started break dancing)”
