FLAPPERS
1920s-style beaded gowns often hit at or just below the knee, but in the 30s evening gowns were floor length. Some even had trains! Look for chiffon, satin, velvet and lots of beading.
For makeup, try smudgy smoky eyes, “bee-stung” lips with cupids bow in matte red, and natural or red nails. For 1920s looks, style your hair in a classic bob or finger waves. In the 1930s, hair was worn curled and styled close to the skull.
Necklaces were either chokers to very long, often past the waist, and earrings often grazed the shoulder. Bracelets were a huge fashion statement in the 20s from cuffs to battalions of bangles. Hair jewelry was popular, particularly tiaras and jeweled headbands that sat across the eyebrows.
Try low-heeled shoes with a delicate ankle strap and a peep toe. Make sure they are comfortable for dancing!
FELLAS
When stepping out in the swing era, men had three basic choices for evening wear:
A black full dress suit or tails, worn to the opera or private parties
Cream dinner jacket or navy/black tuxedo, worn to nightclubs and evening parties
A black or navy daytime business suit, worn to less expensive seats at concerts, to the movies, or out dancing
A crisp white shirt goes with everything, as well as black shoes! No gloves or top hats necessary.

Speakeasies are a throwback to the 1920s, so choosing classic styles that reflect the era is a good idea. For men, this means wearing a fedora or a newsboy cap, while women opt for a flapper-style dress or a cloche hat.
What To Wear To A Speakeasy Bar? If you're going to spend the night out at a speakeasy, you must dress to impress, keeping the culture alive; you'd need your finest vintage attire, paired with sparkly jewelry and the best dancing shoes you can find.
As well as the term, 'Speakeasy', these illegal taverns were also called “Blind Pigs” or “Gin Joints” and were often set up by crime members such as the infamous Al Capone. The venues ranged from Jazz clubs with dancefloors to dark backrooms, basem*nts and a new Prohibition-created venue: The House Party.
You could put on a one-piece 'frock' or a skirt and blouse/jumper combination, bearing in mind that to achieve the low waistline popular for most of the decade, blouses had to be worn on top of skirts. Outside, dresses were covered with matching or contrasting jackets and coats, often lined and/or trimmed with fur.
