Filming of Modern Family’s special Australia episode is underway, with the cast reportedly filming this morning at Woolloomooloo and the restaurants at Finger Wharf. The entire cast of Modern Family has been brought to Australia by Qantas to film a family vacation episode. The cast will be in Australia for two weeks, with the show filming scenes in both Sydney and Hayman Island.
The full cast of Modern Family are now in Sydney, after staggering their arrivals over the last few days. Yesterday, fans were thrilled to spot the stars in Manly, Bondi Beach and Circular Quay, flooding social media with images.
Sofia Vergara was seen dining at Hugo’s at circular quay with fiancé Nick Loeb. The actress, who plays Gloria on the hit show, also posted an instagram snap of herself and Loeb enjoying the sunshine on a harbour boat.
Nolan Gould, who plays Luke, went surfing as soon as he arrived in town. The star tweeted, ‘It took me all of three and a half hours to make it to the beach after we landed in Sydney.’
Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cam, was spotted in the CBD, and posted an instagram picture of Playfair Café, naming it the ‘best coffee in The Rocks.’ Sarah Hyland, who plays Hayley, hit the shops, strolling around Sydney’s CBD with her boyfriend of four years, Matt Prokop.
The show traditionally films one episode per season away from the family homes, having previously filmed in Hawaii, Florida, Disneyland LA and a ranch in Wyoming. The show’s fifth season will be the first to feature an episode filmed outside of Australia.
Steve Levitan, co-creator and executive producer of the show is excited for Modern Family filming in Australia, saying, ‘We just had to go to Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef since, like Sofia Vergara, it’s one of the natural wonders of the world.’
