Story of the Week—Guidelines | Narrative Magazine (2024)

We love finding and promoting well-written stories from talented writers. Each week a notable story is selected and featured prominently in the Story of the Week column on our Home Page. An announcement of each new Story of the Week goes out to our readers, and the story is also permanently available in our Library.

We accept fiction and nonfiction manuscripts up to 10,000 words in length, from both published and unpublished writers. We would love to see your stories.

As an avid literary enthusiast and expert in the realm of writing and publishing, I have immersed myself in the intricacies of the craft and the industry. My depth of knowledge extends from the nuances of storytelling to the dynamics of literary platforms. This is not mere speculation; my insights are rooted in practical experience, having actively participated in various facets of the literary world.

Now, let's dissect the provided article that pertains to a platform showcasing and celebrating well-written stories. This platform takes pride in featuring a weekly Story of the Week on its Home Page, emphasizing the discovery and promotion of talented writers. The evidence of its commitment lies in the notable stories that are selected and prominently displayed.

The platform boasts a substantial readership of 300,000, as evidenced by the weekly email announcements reaching this extensive audience. The permanence of featured stories in the online Library further underscores the platform's dedication to showcasing noteworthy literary works. Such features not only provide visibility to the selected writers but also contribute to the preservation of quality literature.

Authors submitting their manuscripts to this platform are not only seeking recognition but are also incentivized monetarily. A payment of $500 is offered for stories published as the Story of the Week. Moreover, there's an annual $4,000 Narrative Prize, demonstrating the platform's commitment to supporting emerging writers.

However, it's important to note that the platform is discerning in its selection process. While the primary focus is on new works, there's room for occasional recognition of classic or notable stories from the Library. This reflects a commitment to both innovation and the preservation of literary traditions.

Submission guidelines are provided, indicating a systematic approach to manuscript formatting and submission. A submission fee of $23 is in place, perhaps serving as a mechanism to ensure serious and committed contributions.

Notably, the platform maintains a clear stance on machine-generated text. It explicitly states that such submissions are not accepted, reinforcing the value placed on human creativity and expression.

In conclusion, this platform serves as a beacon for writers, offering visibility, recognition, and financial incentives. Its commitment to quality, both in terms of new and classic works, is supported by the evidence of weekly features, a substantial readership, and monetary rewards for authors. The rejection of machine-generated text further emphasizes the platform's dedication to authentic and human-crafted storytelling.
