She was known for her large hazel eyes, wispy eyelashes, minimal makeup style, which allowed her natural beauty to shine, and the kind, cheerful spirit of someone who enjoyed walking the streets of LA barefoot.
Even though she was popular in the 1960s, Sharon was a trendsetter and enjoyed choosing clothes nobody else was wearing just yet, which is why her fashion choices look more like they're from the '70s and give off the relaxed California girl vibe.
The style icon's life is celebrated with the book Sharon Tate: Recollection that's filled with never-before-seen photographs and memories from her friends, co-stars, and family, all compiled in one place by her younger sister Debra Tate.
One thing that Sharon was recognized by is her signature eye look. But besides that, she was a person who took serious care of her skin, never went to bed with makeup on, and used easily accessible cosmetic brands and products that are still available today.
So after lengthy research, I finally compiled a list of Sharon's favorite beauty products that she used to create her signature look. In this list, you will find everything from her favorite moisturizer to her mascara, as well as dupes for some originals that can no longer be found.
Erno Laszlo – White Marble Treatment Bar
As I already mentioned above, Sharon Tate took great care of her skin (which is evident from her pictures) and never went to bed with makeup on.
To remove her makeup, she used the luxury skincare brand Erno Laszlo's White Marble Treatment Bar, a pricey bar of soap housed in a plastic branded case that was later sold in an auction.
The bar of soap contains beneficial ingredients for the skin, including alpha and beta-hydroxy acids that help gently dissolve dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and reveal a brighter and glowier layer from underneath.
Olay – Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid Lotion
Oil of Olay was Olay's most popular moisturizer back in the day, and although the packaging has changed since then, the formula is apparently still the same.
This is a super hydrating moisturizer Sharon loved using to achieve her naturally glowy look that's prominent in every photo.
The Olay moisturizer is a great option for someone with normal to dry skin; however, if you’re trying to follow Sharon's beauty routine but you have oily or acne-prone skin, then it's best that you stay away from this particular product and use La Roche Posay's Cicaplast Baume B5, instead.
Maybelline – Expert Wear Eyebrow Pencil
To create her signature eye look, Sharon Tate used Maybelline's Expert Wear Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown.
She used to draw a very thin line in the socket of her lid and gently smudge it with a thin brush while bringing it all the way down to her outer V.
What I find fascinating is that Maybelline hasn't changed the design of this particular eyebrow pencil since it first launched, and even though pretty much everything else is repackaged and modernized, this particular product stayed strong with the original design.
Revlon Photo Ready Kajal Intense Eyeliner and Brightener
Sharon had naturally long lower eyelashes, but she loved making them appear even longer and fuller with makeup.
She used the black end of the Revlon Photo Ready Kajal Intense Eyeliner & Brightener to draw thin lines in between her eyelashes to achieve this effect.
Additionally, she wanted to make her eyes look even bigger, and she achieved this by using the white tip of the same pencil on her waterlines. She sometimes liked to leave it bare or used a nude eye pencil instead of a white one for a more natural look, which can be achieved by using Charlotte Tilbury's Rock 'N' Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Eye Cheat For Bigger, Brighter Eyes.
Helena Rubinstein – Long Lash Waterproof Mascara
One of the most striking details about Sharon Tate's physical appearance is her long, neatly separated, and voluminous lashes.
To achieve this look, Sharon used a mascara from the brand Aida de Leon, which was one of the items sold at the auction along with the rest of her eye makeup. Unfortunately, this brand is very difficult to find, and my Google search led me nowhere, which is a shame because it would've been cool to know more about it.
However, Sharon used another mascara that was also a part of the same auction set, and that’s the Helena Rubinstein Long-Lash Waterproof Mascara.
This is a beautiful mascara with a thin brush and gorgeous golden packaging, and while it's still available today, it's expensive and notoriously difficult to find, and often there are waitlists on websites that carry it.
But luckily, I have something better for you! L'Oreal's Telescopic Mascara costs only $11, and it has a very similar brush to the Long-Lash Waterproof Mascara.
ALMAY – #120 Go Wild Lipstick
Sharon loved nude lipsticks and rarely wore other colors. Her favorite beauty product was Vaseline, and she enjoyed applying just a little bit of it on her lips and nothing else.
Occasionally, she would wear lipstick from Yardley London in the shade “Slicker.” Unfortunately, they don't make this shade anymore, but ALMAY's #260 Skip The Gym is very similar and can be found easily. It’s a frosted shell pink lipstick and also one that Sharon owned and wore, although the packaging has since changed.
She definitely loved the brand as she also owned ALMAY's #120 Go Wild, which is a gorgeous nude lipstick with a cool undertone.
Cream Bronzers
Sharon loved going to the beach, and she enjoyed having a beautiful golden tan. She also loved her bronzers and rarely went without a sun-kissed, bronzy look. Since she also had great skin, she preferred wearing a cream bronzer that blended seamlessly into her skin.
It's unclear which brand she used for bronzing her cheeks, but there’s a known cream bronzer that was used for her role as Malibu in Don't Make Waves (1967). Unfortunately, the plastic case is only marked as "L6" on the bottom and was sold at an auction as a part of Sharon Tate's complexion products.
Therefore, if you’re recreating Sharon Tate's look, you can use any cream bronzer you like! Fenty Beauty's Cheeks Out Freestyle Bronzers are a great option with a decent shade range.
Ultima II – Transparent Face Tint
Sharon always went with a light, seamless foundation, and she preferred a simple, light-coverage face tint on most days.
Ultima's II Transparent Face Tint was her go-to product, but unfortunately, the line, which was a division of Revlon cosmetics, was discontinued in the U.S. and Canada in 2001 and was also removed from the European market a few years later in 2008.
However, a couple of excellent face tints you can use for a lightweight, glowy finish are the Honest Beauty Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 and Glossier's Perfecting Skin Tint.
If your skin is on the oilier side, you can look into Colourpop's Hyaluronic Tinted Moisturizer.
Closing Thoughts
Sharon Tate had an excellent sense of fashion and makeup. She loved wearing simple clothes with flattering color patterns and didn't like to hide her face behind layers of heavy makeup. Instead, she preferred going lightly and was more focused on keeping her skin healthy and radiant, which is definitely a lesson we can all learn from the beautiful icon.
