Better health conditions and increased nutrients in the foods might have affected this height increase. Although Latin Americans seem to be getting taller, both Latin American men’s and women’s average height isn’t higher than the World’s average. However, the reason why the country still has a lower average height compared to the other countries except Asia is because of genetics.

The shortest male average height in Europe is 5 feet 6.7 inches (172.9 cm), which is still taller than Latin America’s average male height. Even some of the shortest countries in the world are Latin American countries.

Brazil is the most populated country in Latin America, followed by Mexico. Both Colombia and Brazil have middle-income developing economies, which of course affects the lifestyle of the Colombians and Brazilians.

The average male height in Brazil is 5 feet 9 inches (176 cm) and the average female height in Brazil is 5 feet 3 inches (162 cm).
It is an interesting fact that the average height in Brazil changes from rural areas to urban areas. In urban areas of Brazil, the average male height is 5 feet 8 inches (173.5 cm), while in rural areas, the average is 5 feet 7 inches (170.9 cm). This shows that living standards do affect the development of people.
There is no known difference in the average height of rural and urban areas of Colombia. The average male height in Colombia is 5 feet 6.3 inches (171.8 cm) and the average female height is 5 feet 1.8 inches (157.9 cm).

Even though Mexico is not considered to be a part of South America, we would still like to mention its height average. The average male height in Mexico is 5 feet 5.5 inches (170.2 cm) and the average female height in Mexico is 5 feet 1.8 inches (157.9 cm).

The Shortest Countries in the World that are in South America

As we’ve mentioned before, some of the shortest countries are in South America. Guatemala, which is in West-central South America, has one of the shortest male average height in the World. For women, the average height is 4.95 feet (151 cm), and for men, it is only 5.38 feet (164 cm).

Ecuador, another country that is located in South America, has also such a low height average The average male height is 5 feet 6 inches (167.1 cm) and the average female height is 5 feet (154.2 cm).

Lastly, we would like to mention Peru, another South American country. The average male height is 5 feet 4.7 inches (166 cm) and the average female height is 5 feet (154.3 cm).
