His light bulb invention wasn't an instant success, he failed a lot, it shows the power of determination of him.
Thomas Alva Edison tried "two thousand" different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained,
“All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing.”
Edison replied very confidently,
“Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We now know that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb.”

Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything."
He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive."
As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.
When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?"
Edison replied,
"I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."
