She does not like the term icon because she associates it with an old person. And she is not. At 76, Cher feels she still has a lot to say and do. Including walking the catwalk during the last Paris Fashion Week and creating, in collaboration with Scent Beauty, a fragrance collection inspired by the different stages of her life. Launched in late October 2022, The Cher Decades Collection is not only an olfactory transposition of the most memorable looks and moments of the star's existence but also a mix of the fragrances she has worn over the years. "I remember [in the 1960s] when Sonny [Bono] and I became famous, I would take my mother's perfume," she recalls alluding to Dior Joy and Nueva Maja by Myrurgia. Then, growing up, came the desire for rebellion with Tabu by Dana, what "good girls don't wear", followed by a passion for Opium and Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent. All those notes recall when "there was electricity in the air and life smelled of excitement".
The result of these suggestions are four potpourri pots linked to as many different decades, to be alternated depending on the outfit, the occasion or, simply, the mood of the moment. The 1960s describe the Cher of the early years, the still immature, naive, romantic Chypre Flora with notes of Bergamot, Damask Rose and Patchouli, representing the era of nostalgia, peace and love. The 70s brings back the discovery of freedom and awareness, with spicy scents of amber, saffron and musk. Cher Decades 80s, on the other hand, has a floral bouquet with notes of mandarin, honeysuckle, tonka bean and hints of cashmere representing the artist's more "goth punk" phase. Finally, there is the singer's favorite: '90s Couture, a rich floral scent with sandalwood and peach nectar, which Cher describes as "heady".
