Crocs have been around for 20 years, but the love for this comfortable-yet-contentious clog has recently surged, quickly becoming one of the hottest trends of the year. Celebrities like Justin Bieber and Post Malone have teamed up with the brand, and Nicki Minaj recently rocked a pink pair in an Instagram photo and nearly broke the internet. Plus there have been countless headline grabbing collaborations with top brands such as Vera Bradley.

And while celebrities are sporting Crocs on the red carpet, people across America are loving these lightweight loafers too. Despite the love or hate attitude for the brand as well as its reputation as notoriously ugly, Crocs CEO Andrew Rees said in a recent press release that “demand for the Crocs brand is stronger than ever with expected 2021 revenue growth of 40% to 50%.” And it’s easy to see why — these clogs and sandals are comfortable, affordable, slip-resistant, easy to clean and quick to slide on when you’re running out the door. Plus there are so many colors, patterns and styles, and even some with fuzz—there’s bound to be a pair for everyone in your household.

With all that in mind, the Wishlisted research team dug up the data to find the most Crocs-obsessed states in America. We ranked each state by its Google search activity for Crocs and then compared it to the prior 12-month period to show the growth of this summer’s hottest shoe trend.

It turns out search activity for the controversial clog has grown in every state except West Virginia — apparently folks in the Mountain State have always been Crocs fans because the state still ranks No. 3 in search activity despite -5% growth in searches. And while the majority of the east coast is hot on the trend — with Delaware and North Carolina taking the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively — the northwestern U.S. is lagging behind in their love of Crocs, with South Dakota, Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming claiming the last five spots on the list.

Our favorite Crocs findings:

  1. Since 2019, search activity has grown in every state except for West Virginia.
  2. Since 2019, search activity has at least doubled in California, Nevada, Arizona, Louisiana and Delaware.
  3. Folks in Alabama are obsessed with Crocs with Fur.
  4. Their neighbor Mississippi holds the title for Tie Dye Crocs.
  5. Crocs are a big deal on the east coast. Not so much on the west.

There’s no doubt comfort has been the priority this past year, as the pandemic added more joggers, leggings and athleisure attire into our closet than ever before. And while it may be a shock to some, it’s not a complete surprise that Crocs — the king of comfortable shoes — is taking its rightful place as a top trend since we’ve gotten comfortable being, well, comfortable.

Everyone from healthcare heroes and hospitality pros to celebrities and kids are rocking a pair of crocs. Check out where your state ranks among the most Crocs-obsessed in America:
