The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (2024)

One of my favorite events in Denver is the National Western Stock Show, which takes place every January in Denver. Known locally as the Stock Show, this is a series of events that last about two weeks in a large complex northeast of Downtown Denver.

This is your ultimate guide to help you plan the perfect day at the Stock Show, including information about what to do, where to park, what events you might want to attend, and local spots in Denver you should check out.

I’ve been to the Stock Show more times than I can count, first as a child when I knew I wanted to ride horses. Visiting the Stock Show multiple times per year was a given; I had to see and do as much as possible. Ultimately, I rode in a few rodeos at the Stock Show, as well as the annual parade, as part of Westernaires, a local riding organization for Denver area youth.

As an adult, I still love visiting the Stock Show when I’m in Denver. It’s one of the things I’ve missed most since moving abroad. Unfortunately, I can’t visit the Stock Show for multiple days each year, so I’ve had to learn to pack all of the greatest hits into one day. Thus, for this post, I wanted to share my itinerary for a perfect day at the National Western Stock Show, from breakfast to a post-event night on the town.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (1)

What is the National Western Stock Show?

The National Western Stock Show is an annual event that celebrates Colorado’s western heritage every January in Denver.

There are rodeos, horse shows, educational events, working dogs, sheep, cows, and a petting zoo, as well as a huge convention center’s worth of vendors doing product demos. Trust me, you can spend a whole day there and it’ll be a unique experience, especially if you’ve ever wondered what real life American cowboys are like!

I’ve never been anywhere quite like it, but if I had to compare it to something, I’d say it’s like a western-themed State Fair. As always, try to approach new experiences with curiosity.

Schedule and Dates for the 2024 Stock Show

The dates for the next Stock Show will be January 6 to 21, 2024.

Horse and livestock shows begin each morning at 7am, while the rest of the event opens at 9am. The Stock Show runs until 8pm, Sunday through Thursday, and until 9pm on Friday and Saturday.

Ticket Information

The National Western Stock Show is a huge event and, to my knowledge, has never sold out, so the only thing you’ll need to do is figure out when you’d like to go and what you’d like to do when you get there. Within the Stock Show, however, there are ticketed events and it’s possible those specific events will sell out in a given year.

If you’re just hoping to see what all the fuss is about and wander the grounds, just make your way to the main entryway and buy your tickets at the door.

What type of ticket should I buy?

As mentioned above, there are two types of tickets to the Stock Show: a grounds admission ticket and a special event ticket.

General grounds admission

The general grounds admission is the cheapest ticket option, and there’s plenty to see! You’ll be able to wander most of the grounds outlined in this itinerary, and there are daily free shows and events you can attend. If you’re not sure if you’d enjoy a ticketed show, or if you’re visiting on a budget, you’ll be perfectly happy with a grounds admission ticket.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (3)

Special event ticket

The special event tickets are more expensive and include grounds admission to the Stock Show. Special events include ticketed shows like rodeos, horse shows, and freestyle reining. My favorite special events are the Pro Rodeos and the Grand Prix, but go with whatever sounds most interesting to you.

You can find upcoming events and ticket information on the ticketed event page for the National Western Stock Show. If you know that you want to attend a ticketed event, I recommend that you purchase your tickets before you go. That way, you’ll be able to choose the seats you’d like, ensure the show isn’t sold out, and plan your day with the event in mind.

What is the official site where I can buy tickets to the Stock Show?

The official website for the National Western Stock Show is NationalWestern.com.

Tickets are also available at the door.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (4)

Is there a way to find cheaper tickets?

Sometimes you can find a deal if you reserve in advance on Eventbrite. Remember, a ticketed event will include grounds admission in the ticket price. You may want to print your ticket(s) before you go to help you speed through the line when you arrive.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Yes, you can always purchase tickets at the door. You’ll see a large ticket booth with multiple windows in the entrance to the Expo Hall. The Expo Hall is the main pickup and drop off location for the free parking shuttles.

How much do the tickets cost?

For 2024, the prices for standard entry tickets are:

Adults (12+): $17-25
Kids (3-11): $4-5
Ages 2 and under: FREE

*Note that prices vary based on the day you’d like to attend. Weekend tickets will typically be more expensive than weekday tickets.

If you’ll be attending for multiple days, you can purchase a guest badge for $70. This will grant you entrance to the Stock Show grounds for all 16 days of the event, but it does not include admission to any special events.

Free Day

Most years there is a free day for entry to the National Western Stock Show grounds (meaning, there will still be ticketed events). If a free day for 2024 is announced, I’ll update this post with the relevant information; for planning purposes, I would expect the free day to be the second Tuesday of the event. You can always check the official website for current ticket information.

Your itinerary for a perfect visit to the Stock Show

The Stock Show is a large complex with a lot to see, so you’ll want to go in with a plan ahead of time to make sure you can see the things that are most important to you. Most likely, you won’t be able to see everything–there’s just too much going on! So, make a note of anything that’s a “can’t miss” for you, and otherwise spend your day wandering around.

Before you go

Determine which day you’ll visit and if you’re planning to attend a ticketed event like a rodeo or horse show. If you’re only planning to walk the grounds, you can skip ahead to the next section.

If you’re planning to attend a ticketed event, make a careful note of which building the event will take place in. The Event Center and Coliseum are both used for ticketed events, and it would take at least 15 minutes to walk between them, more if it’s particularly crowded. Once you know when and where your event is, you can plan your day accordingly.

Breakfast

The food options at the Stock Show are, in my opinion, a bit expensive and wanting, especially if you have dietary restrictions. This is especially true of the breakfast options, so I’d recommend that you try to eat breakfast in Denver before you head over. I’m including a few of my favorite Denver breakfast spots, in case you’d like to try them.

Please double check the prices, hours, and location for any restaurant before you go.

Port Side

For a quick breakfast sandwich and coffee a walkable distance (about 10 minutes) from the Coors Field parking lot, I love Port Side. This cafe serves great breakfast sandwiches, and the menu has plenty of meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. My order is a Plain Jane (egg and cheese sandwich on a potato bun) with a side of their amazing hot sauce and a cortado.

You can find Port Side at 2500 Larimer St #103, Denver, CO 80205. They’re open from 8am to 2pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

Snooze

For a full sit down breakfast, head over to Snooze, a Denver area staple and “A.M. Eatery.” Snooze has a traditional diner menu, but with some modern upgrades and twists, like Monte Cristo brioche french toast or breakfast tacos with options add-ins. You can see the full Snooze menu online, but they should be able to accommodate most common dietary restrictions.

You can find Snooze at 2262 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80205. Snooze is open from 6:30am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday.

If you’d like to try Snooze on the weekend, visit their other location in Denver’s Union Station at 1701 Wynkoop St Suite 150, Denver, CO 80202. The Union Station location is open daily at 6:30am, and they close at 2:30pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends.

Explore the National Western Stock Show

After you’ve eaten, make your way to the Stock Show, held in the National Western Complex. The building is huge, approximately 550,000 square feet, so it’ll take a while to explore. I’ve included information about finding the event, parking, and other details to help you plan your visit in the FAQ section below.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (5)

If you bought tickets to a show, give yourself about 30 minutes to find the venue (usually either the Coliseum or the Event Center) and your seats. Aside from that, the day is yours – start wandering!

Here are the main attractions/areas:

National Western Complex

The National Western Complex is a large set of buildings in Denver specifically designed to hold the National Western Stock Show each year. There are three main buildings: the Expo Hall, Coliseum, and Event Center, along with a few other buildings and outdoor areas.

You can think of the Expo Hall as the center of the activity, full of all sorts of vendors, restaurants, and activities. The Coliseum hosts the rodeos, and the Event Center hosts horse shows. All other events will be spread out throughout the grounds.

Expo Hall

If you park in one of the designated lots, the shuttle will drop you off at the Expo Hall in front of the ticket offices. Note that re-entry is allowed, but be sure to get your hand stamped before you leave the grounds.

The Expo Hall is the Grand Central Station of the Stock Show, packed with vendors, a floor with livestock waiting to be shown, and a kids’ floor complete with a petting zoo. The vendors are surprisingly engaging and varied. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of vendors I’ve seen at the Stock Show: truck companies, bird sanctuaries, sour cream dipping sauce mixes, farm equipment, clothing, Vitamix blenders, and a horse adoption non-profit. In 2020, there was even a booth dedicated to Nebraska tourism with the thoughtful tagline, “It’s not for everyone.”

I always enjoy wandering around the downstairs area, which is typically filled with cows waiting under large fans.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (6)
Hall of Education

Most of the Stock Show is kid-friendly, but the Hall of Education is really designed with kids in mind. You can find the Hall of Education on the top floor of the Expo Hall. Here you’ll find a large petting zoo, pony rides, and other educational expositions.

The Hall of Education also has a small art gallery that is free to the public. Most of the artwork is modern, showing different aspects of western culture. The collection typically includes paintings and sculptures, and it would take about 20-30 minutes to see all of the pieces.

Stadium Arena

The Stadium Arena is attached to the Expo Hall on one side. It contains a small arena with stadium seating and a row of vendors along the outside walkway. This building is a bit off of the beaten track, but there are really interesting events here so I’d recommend you try to see it.

Most of the time, you’ll see livestock shows in the main arena, but sometimes you can find working dog demonstrations. If you have the chance to see one of these demonstrations, I highly recommend you stick around for a little while. It’s really interesting to see dogs herd sheep, and they have at least one competition during the stock show where you can see the dogs in action.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (7)
Beef Palace Auction Arena

For most of the Stock Show, the Beef Palace Auction Arena is used for livestock auctions, as the name suggests. If this intrigues you, you could definitely go, but most of the general public doesn’t make it to this area. The most interesting event I’ve ever seen in this part of the National Western Complex was a youth fiddle competition, where I watched incredibly talented teenagers play their hearts out to the judges and a small group of spectators.

Stockyards

The Stockyards are an outdoor section of the event, mostly full of holding pens for cattle, yaks, and bison. There is also a small arena where the livestock are shown, where there are some live auctions held, with quick-speaking auctioneers blaring over the sound system.

I never miss the Stockyards when I visit the Stock Show! For me, it’s the part that feels most directly tied to the Stock Show’s origins over 100 years ago. You can read more about the history of the National Western Stock Show – and see some great old photos and ads – here.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (8)
Event Center

The Event Center is a large arena that is primarily used for horse shows, some of which are open to the public and others are ticketed. If you buy tickets to, say, freestyle reining, it will take place in the Event Center because the horse stables are all in this building. By the way, if you’re not sure you’d enjoy a rodeo, freestyle reining is more like the figure skating of equestrian sports, full of creative costumes, music, and impressive connections between horses and their riders.

This building also has a small baby animal exhibit with pigs, sheep, and other animals if you go down the stairs when you first enter, near the ticket booths. Usually, you can go to visit the baby animals even if there’s a paid event happening upstairs. The adjacent staging arena offers a behind-the-scenes look at riders warming up their horses, a must-see for any young equestrian enthusiasts.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (9)
Denver Coliseum

During the Stock Show, the Denver Coliseum is almost exclusively used to host the Pro Rodeos – usually at least one per day. So, if you booked tickets to the Pro Rodeo, this is where you’ll find your seats.

On the way to the Denver Coliseum are a series of food trucks and vendors, so this is a popular place to grab lunch. Similar to other spaces, there are vendors around the indoor periphery of the stadium.

Where to Eat

As mentioned earlier, the Stock Show isn’t exactly a foodie event (again, think State Fair) but you’ll probably end up grabbing a bite for lunch while you’re there because outside food isn’t allowed. I don’t have a particular favorite, but I’ve had the best luck with the food trucks between the Expo Hall and the Coliseum.

There are *a few* vegetarian and gluten-free options, but you’ll have to scout around to find them. If you organize the Stock Show and you’re reading this, we’d love some more options! If you decide you’re done early and would like to check out some Denver restaurants for happy hour, you can see my top picks here.

Bonus Stop: The Grizzly Rose

If, after a long day at the Stock Show, you still have some energy, make your way to the Grizzly Rose, a massive, country-themed bar near the National Western Complex. It’s about 2 miles away, so you’ll probably want to grab a rideshare or pick up your car first. If you decide to drive, the venue has free parking, but no valet service.

Someone once described the Grizzly Rose to me as “the place where cowboys go to meet Denver girls, but Denver girls don’t know about it.” This bar/nightclub/concert venue is huge, about 40,000 square feet, and features a large dance floor with glittery cow skull disco lights, two mechanical bulls, several pool tables, an arcade, and a giant bar along the side wall.

Known locally for its live music, many of the biggest names in country music have performed at the Grizzly Rose, including Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, and Taylor Swift. They have photos taken with many country music artists at the Grizzly Rose over the years inside the venue.

The Grizzly Rose calls itself “one of the last great honkytonks in the world” and I believe them; it’s hard to imagine there are many places like it outside of Texas. You can check the current ticket prices and concert schedule on the official website for the Grizzly Rose.

Free events: The Annual Stock Show Parade and Fair

Every year in Denver, the National Western Stock Show kicks off with a parade through the city streets. The parade includes the iconic sight of over 30 longhorn cattle walking through the streets of Denver, but you’ll also see lots of people on horseback as well as other standard floats and entertainment.

This year, the Stock Show Parade is scheduled for Thursday, January 4 at 12pm. The parade route follows 17th Street, starting at Union Station and ending at 17th Street and Glenarm.

For 2024, event organizers have also planned the first ever Stock Show Fair, scheduled to take place at McGregor Square, an outdoor space near Coors Field, after the parade. The event will include a large Brahma bull, miniature therapy horses, music, and a food market.

The Stock Show Fair will run from 12pm to 2pm on Thursday, January 4.

Where to stay in Denver near the National Western Stock Show

Denver is a sprawling metropolitan area, so it can be hard to choose a hotel that is near the venue but also close to interesting urban centers. The Stock Show is held in an area that’s about a 10 minute drive or an hour’s walk from Union Station in the downtown area. There’s not a lot of activity near the National Western Complex, so to be near other activities and restaurants you may want to choose a hotel closer to downtown.

Here are my top recommendations for hotels and places to stay near the National Western Stock Show:

Option One: As close to the event as possible

There are two hotels very close to the National Western Complex, the Radisson Hotel Denver and the Clarion Hotel Denver. Neither hotel is exceptionally well rated, but the Radisson received much higher marks than the Clarion. If you want a place to sleep and to be near the action, either hotel will work for you.

Note that these hotels are further from the center of Denver, so you’ll want to take a rideshare or drive downtown if you want to see other parts of the city.

Option Two: In downtown Denver, near all of the action

If you’re planning to stay in downtown Denver and want to stay near the action, choose a hotel or rental property in the River North Arts District or the Ballfield neighborhood, both of which are within walking distance of the free event parking.

River North District (RiNo)

River North (known locally as RiNo) is the artsy, hip part of Denver that is full of breweries, trendy restaurants, and graffiti. There are two highly reviewed hotels that would be great choices for a stay in RiNo, the moderately priced Catbird Hotel and the Ramble Hotel, a luxury option. Both hotels would be a very quick drive to the Stock Show and close enough to the center of Denver to enjoy all of the nightlife that the city has to offer.

If you want to get a little exercise, my favorite yoga studio in Denver is located in RiNo, called BIG Power Yoga.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (12)

Ballfield Neighborhood/Downtown

Alternatively, the Ballfield Neighborhood, which earned its name for its proximity to the city’s baseball field, is a central and active spot in Denver. There are restaurants, bars, a few breweries, and some boutiques in the Ballfield neighborhood, and it’s very close to the nightlife at Union Station and in LoDo. It’s worth noting that these central locations come with steep price tags, so be prepared to pay for the luxury of staying close to it all.

One surprisingly affordable hotel near downtown Denver is the Slate Denver, Tapestry Collection By Hilton. Guests love the location, right off the 16th Street Mall, and the chic style of the hotel’s interior. You’ll need to take a rideshare or public transit to get to the Stock Show, but this hotel would be a great option.

If you’re a young solo traveler, the Hostel Fish could be a great choice – with some of the lowest prices for a bed in the city. Note that hostels are probably not a good choice for families, and this style of accommodation includes shared, dormitory-style rooms, where it can sometimes be loud and rowdy. If you’re not sure if a hostel is a good choice for you, read my accommodation guide for more information.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (13)

Highlands

A third option is to stay in the Highlands, which is also trendy and hip, with locally famous restaurants like Linger and Root Down. The Highlands are a little further from downtown – still walkable to the downtown area during the daytime, but probably better suited for a rideshare later in the evening because you’ll need to cross a large, poorly lit city park. Don’t worry too much, you’ll find plenty to do in the Highlands without going downtown!

The Hampton Inn & Suites Denver-Speer Boulevard would be a good choice for a reliable hotel in the Highlands neighborhood. It won’t have the luxuries of the more expensive hotels, but the rooms will be clean, with all of the standard amenities of the Hilton brand.

Option Three: Less expensive areas in the surrounding suburbs

If you have a car and want to save money on your accommodations while in Denver, choose a spot in the suburbs near Denver. Some larger suburbs include Littleton, Lakewood, Wheatridge, Golden, Thornton, and Stapleton, all of which should be less than a 45 minute drive to the National Western Complex.

You can save some money by staying somewhere like the Hampton Inn & Suites Denver Littleton. It’s about a 30 minute drive from the Stock Show, but guests love the friendly staff and proximity to the mountains. There are other hotels that are even more affordable, but the Denver Littleton Hilton received especially high marks from guests so I’m including it here.

Nearby Things To Do in Denver

If you’re coming to the Stock Show from out of town, here are some other great things to do in the Denver area in January.

Go for a hike

Colorado is known for its beautiful mountains and big skies. If you visit the Stock Show and want to see some other highlights in Denver, you can head to the nearby city of Boulder for some hiking. One of my favorite hikes in Boulder is Royal Arch, which you can reach easily by parking near Chautauqua Park. An easier hike on the other side of town is the Mount Sanitas Trail, which has several options that range in difficulty from easy to moderate.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (15)

Visit the Grizzly Rose

There’s a whole section of this post dedicated to the Grizzly Rose, a massive western bar in Denver! The Grizzly Rose is a quick 5 minute drive from the National Western Complex and typically features dancing, live music, and reasonably priced drinks from its huge wrap-around bar. You could even walk from the Stockyards portion of the Stock Show if you wanted, though it would probably take about 30 minutes.

Try some great Mexican food

Denver has fabulous Mexican food, and you can find it throughout the city. Before you leave Denver, be sure to try green chili, with or without pork!

My favorite family style Mexican restaurant is La Familia Taqueria, located at 2642 W 32nd Ave, Denver, CO 80211, about a 10 minute drive from the Stock Show. They have delicious food and an unassuming atmosphere, perfect for solo travelers, couples, and families. The prices are reasonable and there’s a classical Mexican bakery next door – go inside and try a cookie or a pastry if you’ve never tried one before!

Where Can My Child Learn to Ride Horses in Denver?

If your child goes to the Stock Show and leaves wanting to try riding a horse for the first time, here’s what to look for in a stable to be sure that you’re hiring happy, healthy horses. If you live in the Denver area and you’re looking for local riding programs, consider both Westernaires, a local organization, and 4-H, which has clubs across the country.

Westernaires

If you live in the Denver area, and your child is between the ages of 9 and 14, they can join Westernaires, a non-profit organization that offers a robust riding program in Golden, Colorado. There is no requirement that you own a horse to join or participate in Westernaires, and I never rode my horses, Mickey and PJ, in the program. Westernaires’ riders perform in the Stock Show rodeos and participate in the annual parade.

Westernaires has a permanent livery string of well cared for and loved horses that riders can ride for a reasonable fee (as of this writing, about $20 for an hour-long practice). The fees offset the costs of owning and caring for the horses near a major metropolitan area. When Westernaire horses are retired, they go to loving homes with their former riders.

In case you’re curious, when I left Westernaires I was a Precisionette (essentially the organization’s junior varsity team).

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (16)

4-H Clubs

Another great option is 4-H, a national organization that works with universities throughout the US to provide youth development opportunities in local communities. Mickey and I participated in 4-H for many years as part of the Rangers and Wranglers 4-H Club, but there are several clubs in the area to choose from based on where you live. You will need to own or borrow a horse to participate in 4-H’s equine programs.

The fees to participate in 4-H will vary from club to club, but, in general, the fees are modest. The most significant costs will be owning and caring for a horse, as well as horse shows throughout the summer that serve as fundraisers for local clubs.

How to choose between 4-H and Westernaires

For starters, many young riders in the Denver area participate in both Westernaires and 4-H, so you certainly can do both. I rode in both programs for years (thanks, Dad, for making this possible!). Westernaires requires a demanding schedule and offers robust, year-round programming, though riders only learn the basics of equine care and management.

4-H programs, in contrast, offer rigorous lessons in horsemanship and equine management, often putting on clinics and partnering with experts to offer in-depth training. The horse shows at 4-H prepared me well for competing on my college’s equestrian team and the leadership skills I acquired in the program have helped me to be a better member of a non-profit board.

FAQs: National Western Stock Show

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the National Western Stock Show.

What should I wear to the National Western Stock Show?

You’ll see all sorts of outfits when you get to the Stock Show, but truly you can wear whatever is comfortable. If you want to get festive, throw on some jeans, a button up, and a cowboy hat! Just be sure to wear your comfiest walking shoes (or boots, if you have them!)–you’ll be walking a lot on hard concrete.

No matter your personal style, always dress in layers, as January in Denver can be bitter cold, windy, sunny, and warm enough to melt snow all in one day.

If you don’t own a cowboy hat or aren’t sure where to buy one, there will be plenty of vendors selling high quality hats throughout the National Western Complex.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (17)

What should I pack in my bag for a day at the stock show?

I recommend a small backpack or tote bag for carrying coats and a reusable water bottle, which you can fill at the water fountains throughout the National Western Complex.

Note that outside food is not permitted, with exceptions for babies and people with medical needs.

The weather in Denver can change rapidly and portions of the event are held outside. So, be sure to pack a warm coat, especially if you’re attending an event that is scheduled to continue into the evening – chances are it’ll be frigid by the time you’re walking to your car.

Where is the National Western Stock Show held?

The National Western Stock Show is held at the National Western Complex. The address is 4655 Humboldt St, Denver, CO 80216.

How to get to the Stock Show

You can reach the Stock Show by car or public transit, and the building is located near interstates I-25 and I-70. If you’re taking public transit, the closest light rail (train) stop is 48th and Brighton – National Western Complex, along the N-line.

Parking lots near the Stock Show

Due to the large crowds, there are free parking lots located near the National Western Complex and in the Coors Field lot in Denver. Any official National Western parking lot will have a free shuttle that will take you to the event, though it’s customary to tip the driver if you can.

If you want to park in Denver at the Coors Field lot, look for the entrance off of Wazee Street and Park Avenue. The lot opens daily during the event at 8am, and it should be well marked for drivers new to the area.

The National Western has convenient maps and additional information about parking and shuttle services that you can reference while planning your trip.

How long is the National Western Stock Show in Denver?

The National Western Stock Show lasts for 16 days. This year, the event will run from January 6 to 21, 2024.

What happens at a stock show?

Stock shows are traditionally events where livestock like cows and pigs are exhibited and judged, sort of similar to how the Westminster Dog Show judges dog breeds. The National Western Stock Show in Denver started in much the same way, but has evolved and expanded to include a number of demonstrations, entertainment, and vendors. In its current iteration, you can think of the Stock Show as a mix between a state fair and a western heritage convention.

The National Western Stock Show: How to Plan a Perfect Visit (2024) (18)

How many people attend the National Western Stock Show?

Annually, more than 500,000 people attend the National Western Stock Show.

What else should I know before I attend the Stock Show?

Here are a few more bits of information about attending the Stock Show.

Avoid the final weekend, if you can

Don’t go on the final weekend if you can avoid it. The energy is much better and there’s more to see during the first two weekends, and the exhibitors and competitors will be a little tired by the final few days.

There are a lot of vendor booths

If you’ve never been to the Stock Show, you might be surprised at how many vendor booths you’ll find. In a typical year, you’ll see booths selling livestock equipment, dipping sauces, western styles clothes

If you don’t have a cowboy hat or cowboy boots, the Stock Show is the perfect place to buy them. You’ll find options from all of the best brands, and there are usually knowledgeable salespeople to help you choose the right item for you.

Conclusion: How to plan a perfect visit to the National Western Stock Show

Whether you’ve lived in Denver your entire life or you’re planning a trip to the Mile High City from abroad, you’ll likely find something to hold your interest at the Stock Show. Whether it’s new cowboy boots, an awe-inspiring stunt in a rodeo, a friendly conversation with an exhibitor, or a different surprise, I have yet to take someone who didn’t find a reason to love it. If you’re able to visit, I hope you love it, too!
