I live in one of the 5 NYC boroughs, and often take a trip into Manhatten for a day at Macy's, Yes..you can spend an entire day in the store!
Hint: get a Macys charge card before you go and download any printable coupons from either Macys.com or retailmenot.com. You'll save a bundle.
Almost every other floor has a restaurant or fast food joint, and there is a steak house in the Cellar. Expect to get lost, the store is huge. Forget the elevators, they take a long time and are always crowded. ALOT of Europeans shop here now (with the great exchange rate, who can blame them), so the shoppers are an odd international mix. Definitely adds to the experience.
If your traveling with small kids, do not expect to spend lot of time here. It's more for shopaholics and curious tourists.
